Gagne isnt what he used to be and that will save us a ton of cap. What other goalie would we have a shot with.

We were blessed with solid goaltending from Boucher and Leighton this season, but no one realistically thought we would be in the position we are now.

Did the guy who's known for being overly biased toward russians REALLY just mention Nabokov on page 2 of a thread entitled "so, what are everyone's thoughts on emery at this point"?

Carle's play is much better this year since being paired with Pronger, Carle will get much better the more he plays and adjusts.
Emery is playing well, hopefully the Flyers will resign him next year, a good cheap multi-year contract will improve Emery's attitude.

What's wrong with Emery's attitude now? Dude seems to be getting along just fine to me...

Agreed. Not sure why the Isles would give him up as he seems to be a better option than Biron. Doesn't look like there's any chance of the Isles being out of the playoff picture by the deadline

When is Rollie gonna slow down? He still looks pretty darn good to me. I think he's signed through next year too. He's getting his AARP card next week and he's still holding it down...respect.

Since the NYR game, Emery is working at a 94.3 SV% and a 1.5 GAA.

Needless to say, his s*** is on fire.

Are you kidding me? He made 18 saves, i counted 3 times where he let out a rebound and couldn't locate the puck after, the defenseman had to find it and only then did Emery realize where it was. Did he make some key saves? Yes, fine. But nothing that Leighton or Boucher wouldn't have saved, he was barely tested. Congrats on the shut out, yes, but i still wasn't overly impressed.

My take:

He lets out bad rebounds, he can't locate the puck after he lets out the AWFUL rebounds right in the slot and then has trouble covering the puck, and EVERY time he plays the puck i have to close my eyes because of how close he comes to turning the puck over the majority of the time.

I think you could put Leighton back in nets and his numbers would be just as good as Emery's, and the Flyers record would be the same.

And why on earth would anyone want to resign Ray Emery when there are so many better goalies that will be available to sign/trade for in the summer? What bothers me about the goalie situation, is that chances are the Flyers will go the rest of the year with Emery and only realize he's not that great after the Flyers get killed in the playoffs again (probably by the damn Pens again too), and we'll have wasted another opportunity to make a run for the cup.

Since when is rebound control something that can't be improved? Just face it you're not going to find many goalies with Emery's upside. All he need is some refinement to become elite.

His rebound control was MUCH better this game than a few games ago. I think it has alot to do with not playing in such a long time. He is improving every game. (Although he wasn't really tested last night.)

If he had any chance of being elite Ottawa would not have let him walk away.
If he had any chance of being elite someone in the NHL would have taken him last year

His numbers are ok, but he was in the KHL last year for a reason and I am sure that if the Flyers werent desparate for a goalie, he would still be there. No other NHL team would have taken the chance.

Question is, when do you start Leighton/Bouch?

I'm all for giving Emery the nod for more than none. I believe he is a goalie who we can ride for a while. Much like Kipper and Nabby.

He looked good last night.

Elite???? Hahahaha!!!! I don't even know how i'm supposed to reply to that, that's a HUGE joke. Elite goaltenders are Brodeur, Luongo, Roy... Comparing Ray Emery to those goalies is an insult to them. If Ray Emery was going to be elite, he would have been there by now when he's in his prime, he's not just suddenly going to become elite at 28 years old.

The Flyers are winning games right now because the defense is playing well in front of Emery. I realize that he just came back from an injury, but i still don't think he'll get that much better. You could stick any above average goaltender in nets for the Flyers at this point and they'd all put up roughly the same numbers because the team is playing so well.

For the sake of maybe winning a cup, i hope he gets better, but he's definitely not the answer to their goaltending problem.

No, I'm not kidding you.

If you want to dissect his game, go right ahead. It was a shutout and we got two points on the road. Apart from scoring lastnight, what else do you want him to do?

I can seem him getting a night off during one of the home and homes. Probably against the Canadiens.
