Shortly after playing more than 15 minutes for the Calgary Flames, Olli Jokinen became the newest member of the New York Rangers.

Jokinen, 31, along with forward Brandon Prust, were officially traded to the Blueshirts after Calgary's 3-0 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night in exchange for forwards Ales Kotalik and Christopher Higgins.

Rumors of the trade first surfaced on Sunday night -- just hours after the Flames completed a seven-player blockbuster that sent defenseman Dion Phaneuf to Toronto.

Jokinen has 11 goals and 24 assists in 56 games with the Flames this season. He was acquired by the Flames from Phoenix at last season's trade deadline. Prust, 25, has one goal, four assists and 98 penalty minutes. The pair is expected to make its debut with the Rangers on Tuesday night in Los Angeles.

"It was a long day," Jokinen said after playing his last game with Calgary. "Obviously, I heard everything (Sunday) night. I was kind of surprised. I obviously wasn't expecting to get moved. It's part of the business. I've got to move on. It's tough.

"I settled my family over here. I was hoping I could stay here the rest of my career. That's the way it goes. It goes with the salary. You make $5 million, 11 goals is not going to cut it. It's definitely a slap in the face to get traded. But this is what we do for a living."

I guess like most Calgary fans, I wonder what the Hell Sutter is thinking.

Fine, they completed that trade and NYR scoring may go up..

Hopefully Sather will give him one of those 6.5M 6 year deal.

Jokinen's first and last games with the Flamers was against the Flyers.

So now we have to deal with Jokinen when we play the Rangers.

I like how they held the trade for a day in the hopes that they could get one last good game out of Jokinen, which failed miserably. Considering the whole team didn't show up, if a guy knows he's being traded, why even attempt to play well?

Whoop-De-Doo. Now the Rangers have two offensive threats instead of one.

The Rangers do gain the offseason cap space by 3 million and change.

And add a bigger stronger Carcillo clone in Prust.

Rangers PK will get some practice. Carcillo is a better hockey player then Prust.

Good trade for the Rags, shame it won't help too much this season. Gaborik + Jokinen = Gaborik + anyone. He can't really get any better than he is now. It's not like all the sudden he is going to score 8 goals a game just because Jokinen is there. If they had another line that could score, this would be a scary trade, since they don't, who cares?

Carcillo definitely has better hands around the net. But Prust is more controlled and less likely to take the really stupid penalties Carcillo thankfully seems to be putting behind him. And I guarantee Gaborik won't be fighting in the future, if Prust is on the ice.

I'm not at all happy Prust is in the division and not wearing orange and black....

In a tight conference/same division scenario, that could be the difference between making the playoffs or not (or more likely, playoff positioning). Only takes a couple close losses.

Luckily most of the good moves Sather makes are simply reversing the original bad ones.

honestly I am not worried. We have enough guys who can fight and play that game.
Carcillo has his out of control moments behind him I think.
I think he has learned how to go right to the edge and not cross that line. When he is like that he is very effective and valuable.
Getting Prust was a definite answer to how much the Flyers took it to them physically the last time we played them.
Still though if they are worried about getting beat up instead of scoring goals its not going to help them one bit. Adding Jokinen gives them one good line.
Jokinen has the same amount of points as Matt Lombardi. the guy he was traded for to Calgary.

Let's hope the Rangers waste Gaborik by playing him with Prust.

It might have been the Kotalik thing holding it up, but they had to know it was going to go through if the trade was made just as the game ended. What has the world come to that a team wouldn't sit out a trade chip when playing the Flyers!?

I think he meant Calgary.
Rangers cant take on Kovalchuk unless they send Redden to Hartford, which would sent a bad message to future free agents.

Maybe they are expecting Kovalchuk to go the UFA route.

Yeah, I am sure free agents in the future would turn down the chance to get overpaid by the Rangers. They won't let that stop them from getting Kovalchuk. The only way they won't do it is if their ownership is unwilling to eat the money.
