Seriously. I think people tend to forget it's not only the level of Rangers play that affect the standings, but also the teams around them. Islanders went hot, and now their taking a dump again. Boston has been terrible. Atlanta is up and down, and probably won't get any better with the whole Kovalchuk thing, and if it turns out to be true Kotaweak is going to ATL, count them out. Cammalleri is hurt. It's not like we're playing in the West here.

The Flyers and the Sens are the only ones making a statement to pull out in front of the rest. The Panthers are probably the closest to joining them, as of right now.

This is the most logical answer I've heard when contemplating the Rangers regular-season fate. A+

...And I've read every response in these threads.

We will win out for the rest of the season then get swept in the playoffs vs FLA.

Take a look at last years team and ask yourself how a team can go to game 7 averaging 1.5Goals per game. Henrik

I still think no, but it will be close.
Only 2-4 points out.

A lot of optimistic fans here. I'll go with a "no." I just don't think the talent is there. Sather made a trade that I liked and while I think Jokinen has a lot of potential, adding an underachieving star to the team isn't going to put us over the hump. It's good to see Gaborik getting his stuff back but he will need a lot of secondary scoring for this team to go anywhere. Lundqvist will have to be fantastic. Too much falls on those two guys. I just don't think the scoring is there. Maybe next year if we make some moves in the off season but I predict a 9th or 10th place showing.

No Way

We are an injury away from a lottery pick. Hank is going to be on fumes when he returns from the Olympics. We still play lousy D and we can't score and have an untested rookie backup. We have a rough patch of games coming up and frankly I think our coaching is below standard.

I hope I'm right. We don't need to tank to have a shot at one of the top 3 picks. We can finish 7th worse and still have a shot of moving up to a 3d pick. If we could get a Seguin I think this team will be so far ahead of schedule with Seguin, Stepan as our centers in a few years. I'm tired of squeaking into the show to be booted out in the first round and picking 20th.

To be perfectly clear, I am not calling for a "tank." That is unacceptable. I just think we're not built right and have too man holes. So we'll just be bad.

If Henke and Gaborik remain healthy, and Henke doesn't tire out from the Olympics, then the Rangers have every bit as much a chance to make get into the playoffs as the 6-7 teams they'll be fighting with to get in. Barring that, it will be difficult as I don't see much of anything else going for this team.

I think they will because I think Sather will do something dumb at the deadline, trading the future and cap space for a first round exit.

No, they won't make it. As a few other's have said, probably only by a few points. If they make it, they'll be a 7th seed at best; they'll have to face either WAS (1-1, 2 games left), NJ (1-2, 3 games left), BUF (1-1, 2 games left) or PIT (0-4, 2 games left), and with the way they're playing, won't make it out of that round.

Fixed.

As for the poll, I voted no. I'd say I'm a 5/10 on the confidence scale right now, and with this team, you always have to round down.

Heard on the radio that 87 points (+/-1) will be needed to get in (tendency before yesterday's games). We have 57, with 25 games left, 50 points available.

Projected of course, but assuming that remains true, to me 15-10 at the very least, is not that unrealistic. Let alone a combination of wins and ties (errr OTL). I think this upcoming stretch of games will really be telling, but I sincerely don't think we are out of a playoff spot yet.

Yes...

In all, NYR, Boston, Tampa, Florida, Montreal are going to scrap over two spots. 3 of those teams have key injuries they're struggling with. So I'm going to shoot for NYR and Tampa, Rangers maybe just inching that last spot.

Probably not. If they do--they'll be bounced early.

Intresting. I can see this team going 10-10-5. More realistically... 12-12-1.

Edit:Has anyone taken a look at the people we play down the stretch? We don't play any bad teams.
