I don't think it was enough to become favorites.

Whoever gets the biggest trade deadline acquisition will be picked as the favorite again this year by more than a few people.

Happens all the time, and it's hilarious.

Those teams that don't need the big acquisition are the ones to look out for.

Yeah, I agree with this. When you try to pick up a very good player, chances are, you are going to trade a few roster players. That completely screws up team chemistry and 2 months isn't enough time for the new guy to adjust and get a feel for the teams strength and weaknesses.

The last trade asset CAL has is Rene Bourque, who from my understanding, is untouchable. Before at least he may have been able to work a package around Dion. Now I dont see CAL being able to win the Kovalchuk sweepstakes with what they have.

A lot of the trade speculation surrounding Kovalchuk involved getting young NHL ready players in return on top of or instead of picks. Atlanta needs something a little bit more tangible than a late first round pick to be able to market and Calgary certianly doesn't have that.
