I am going to say L.A ..

And the most interesting thing to me is that he is being dealt prior to the olympic break .. I think we will see he most action before the break and not in the 4 days between the break and the trade deadline

A team with Brodeur in net and Kovalchuk up front is a team I'd be afraid of

No way in hell kovalchuk ends up in the east again. He'll be dealt to the west.

I see the Kings / Hawks and Possibly Calgary going at it. NJ could probly be in the mix too, but if Kovalchuk ends up in the east, I hope Gainey offered the moon dammit!

I think the deal will get done before the Olympic break because injuries during the Olympics do happen. Insurance against that is dealing now

Same here.

Boston's first pick in 2010 (not the one they acquired form TOR) + ??? + Ryder (as a salary dump)

Jaroslav Spacek
Yannick Weber

for

Kovalchuk
I wouldn't do it if I can't even talk with his agent, which is what is up right now.

Kovalchuk is elite.....you give up what you have to, to get him yeah hes a free agent but we've been freakin mediocre for almost 17 years (minus the year we one the confrence) take a chance, he already said Montreals his favorite away place to play, chances are he would sign, either way take it, if it doesn't work then ohh well full steam ahead on a rebuild

players like him come once every 10 years

Before anyone says cap issues, you figure it out, other teams do it, get rid of Hamerlik, Spacek (8 mill right there)

LMAO

Players like him come every 10 years? Crosby, Malkin and Ovechkin are all clearly better than him and many others are as good.

Clearly is a strong word, you act like players like him are a dime a dozen, we havent had one since Guy Lafluer, 17 freakin years mediocre, after Crosby Malkin and Ovechkin Kovi is next, we've never had a guy like him I would pay to get this guy

you're not crazy.
problem is though, Kovalchuk is KHL bound next season because of the Salary cap in NHL.
He'll get 20M per, and no NHL team will be able/allowed to offer that... and big owners will start questionning the salary cap, right in time for a new debate about the CBA.
it might get ugly.

Name them.

The only forwards in this entire league I take before Kovalchuk, are Ovechkin and Crosby. Maybe Malkin. I view Malkin and Kovalchuk as equal.

How much can Atlanta really expect from Kovy?

They're refusing to let any team talk to him or his agent. Atlanta apparently offered him the largest contract EVER offered to a player in the NHL and he still refused it. He was obviously BSing when he said he wanted to stay in ATL and he could be contimplating a move to the KHL.

Im not sure I would throw the bank to get him if I'm a GM to be honest. A team right on the brink of winning right now would make a pitch but a borderline team like Boston or Calgary would be taking a massive risk to trade too many young assets for Kovy imo.

I sincerly doubt what with all the names and picks being bandied about that he will wind up as a " rental" . More likely that the team that trades for him will sign him.

I would love to see Boston give up a bunch of youth and picks just like Toronto did to get Kessel. I doubt they could beat Washington or Pittsburgh anyway.

Everyone? There have only been 2 Hab proposals in this thread and the Price, Pleks and 1st had a sarcastic tone to it IMO... Unless there are other proposals from Hab fans on my ignore list or you read it in another thread...

Edit...Frankenheimer added his proposal before I submitted my response...There were only 2 at the time I was writing my post...

Genius.
Hey, if Toronto wants to empty their forward depth and their only non-Kaberle puck-mover for an overhyped defenseman and Boston wants to empty their futures for a rental, I say more power to them. I think the Habs need to retool this year anyway so, no skin off my back.

I'm going to say he goes to Los Angeles, most likely with Frolov+ headed back to Atlanta.

I think he'll be traded to a Western Conference team though.

In 2007-08, the Penguins went to the cup finals with Marian Hossa who was acquired by Ray Shero from the Atlanta Thrashers. The deal was:

To Pittsburg:
Hossa
Dupuis

To Atlanta:
Armstrong
Christensen
Esposito (prospect)
1st round 08 : 29th overall = Daultan Leveillé

AS we all remember, Hossa was only a rental since he signed with Detroit afterward during the off season. Then so, by comparing to this trade, how about Montreal try to acquire Kovalchuk, who is much better than Hossa.

Proposal:

To Montreal:
Kovalchuk (UFA)
Brian Little(RFA '11) who is struggling this year.

To Atlanta:
Halak (RFA)
Pacioretty(better than Esposito)
Weber(we have Subban)
One of the K brothers.
1st round 2011 (weak draft .. Larsson and Couturier are the only interessing)
