Now, let me preface this by saying that it came from TIOPS, and could easily have zero credibility. Some of the speculation in this article is also shocking in terms of values being discussed, though that doesn't necessarily make it untrue. The proposed HF value of a player and their real-world value are often very different.
A top priority for the Dallas Stars is acquiring a young puck moving defenseman and while the Stars are among several teams expressing interest in Kris Letang, making a play for Letang would cost at least one of the Stars "big" young guns James Neal or Loui Eriksson.
Hence, the Stars have significant interest in puck moving defenseman Alex Goligoski, sources tell me.
The Stars have even made young stay-at-home defenseman Mark Fistric and 20 year old winger Jamie Benn to a much lesser extent, available in a potential deal for Goligoski, a league source tells me.
I would totally send Letang and a pick for Neal or Eriksson, but understandably Dallas is not interested in that.
The notion of Benn, however, is very intriguing.
What does everyone think the approximate value of Benn would be for us? What picks or prospects would need to be added? He would make basically any prospect in our system other than Tangradi expendable.
I would give Goligoski and Caputi and possibly even a pick for Benn and Ott. Is that too much? Not enough?
Ott's cap hit is 1.5m and he's an UFA after this season. Benn is on his ELC and is a RFA in 12/13, with a cap hit of 0.822.
With the cap hit we have remaining, and the money we could save by trading a Dupuis or a Fedotenko as a salary dump, we could roll with a lineup like this in the playoffs.
TIOPS is such crap. They make obvious rumors up, we all know Dallas has a need for puck movers and a surplus of forwards. Having said that , Benn's contract and potential would probably be a perfect fit for us.
i dont know too much about the dallas players being offered but, i see too much upside with Letang. he seems like our answer for gonchar after he leaves, not Gogo. Gogo seems to lack in defensive play compared to Letang. also Letang is much more physical.
i wouldnt want to see ott coming our way. we have cooke already no need for another pesty type player, also ott is a bit of a loose cannon at times...not worth the trouble

Neither am I. I wouldn't swap Letang for either of them straight up, let alone with a pick!
Yeah you are legitimately high if you wouldn't trade Letang for Eriksson, who's about to become one of the best contracts in the league. He would score 40 goals and play unbelievable two way hockey for 4.25M. I think everyone in their right minds makes that deal 10 times out of 10.

Seriously? You wouldn't trade Letang for Eriksson straight up?
I like Letang's game and see a ton of potential in him, believe me, but Eriksson is a 24 year old left winger that has 50 points in 56 games with 21 goals. He's signed through 16/17 @ 4.250 per.
That's basically Pittsburgh's own personal winger nirvana.
If that trade were offered, Shero would actually have to throw away the clothes he was wearing because he would literally expulse every form of waste and fluid that the human body is capable of producing at the same time.

Speaking of TIOPS, cadow made reference yesterday to the fact they were discussing the negotiations between the team and Gonchar and Letang's agents. Anybody know what was said about those negotiations?
If by some struck of good luck and insanity on Dallas' part, they offered us Eriksson for Letang, I'd make that trade in a heartbeat. And I'm a Letang fan.

Why would Dallas trade away any of their big forward talent though? None have unreasonable contracts. They've got a pretty good foundation for when Modano leaves and the old guard is gone. Sure they might love to have Gogs or Tanger but I don't see them as being so deep at F they can afford to just swap away. They'd be trading one problem for another down the road pretty much. I think Dallas needs to just keep on keepin' on, find a good replacement for Turco and in a year or two they'll be a very solid team.

I think I'd take Neal before Eriksson. But both are good.
