I know I was for trading for him and I still am, but the price is coming waaaay down and no way I'd want to sign him to a long term deal under ANY situation at those ridiculous prices.

He should not make more than Ovy, Crosby or Malkin imo.
Interesting POV my friend, He is not all about team, he is about KOVY. Signing him to such a ridiculous amount of money is death to a franchise. I read Don Waddels statement about the whole ordeal and every team in the NHL will meet the same fate as Atlanta, you give this guy the bank and strap your team from putting together pieces needed to ice a competitive team. I say let him go to Russia.

They never were UFA's

It doesn't really matter whether UFA or RFA. They wanted long-term contracts at 8.7 million to make a lot of money and to keep their team competitive. At 12 million dollars, the team has 48 million dollars left for 22 players. 2 million each? That would make a pretty thin looking team (he'd be the only star there).

There would be people who would be ecstatic believe it or not. People who feel that the Kostitsyn brothers are a net negative because of "attitude" and need to be shipped out for a bag of pucks if need be, and that Hamrlik is so overpaid that he's preventing the Habs from making any moves at all. No, I don't get it either.

No they did not, they signed before the summer when no other teams could offer them contracts.

He seems to report everything. I have never seen him be wrong. He was the first who broke when we traded Higgins to the Rangers for Gomez.

Excactly. But they were still "free agents" negotiating with their team for a contract. If they didn't want to re-sign, they could say no and get a different deal in the off-season; shop the market.

Whether or not they sign before or after the free agency period, if their contract ends that season, they are free agents! Once they extend their contract, they're no longer free agents.

I'd love to see Kovalchuk here, but no way we'd be able to fit him under the cap. Plus without Markov our defense will be worse than it already is.

who is not playing tonight in the East? NJ, Pits and Philly are not...can't see a trade to a team playing tonight unless it is after the game.
