Kovalchuk have said that he's going to test free agency market... if he do that, it's a very big return for 3 month rental!

If jersey win the cup and Kovy resign elsewhere, it's a win-win trade IMO

if he resign with Jersey it's a correct return... I'm a big fan of Oduya and Cormier and Bergfors have played well this year

I don't see how that's a steep price for a rental

Bergors is a power play specialist, won't do **** at even strength, Cormier is fine but nothing spectacular, Oduya is a fine player but can be replaced on the open market quite easily in return you get a very strong player for the rest of year at minimum and if they re-sign him, then it's a grand slamy for sure for Jersey

Habs score

I wish the Habs went hard after him, tradings some assets and a first.

Kovalchuk comes into Montreal loooooved by the fans, more then Pouliot was when he came here. For the first time in his career Kovalchuk gets the treatment that only Hab fans can give, he rips it up, things get better and better. I just don't see how he wouldn't want to stay, the city would be his.

agreed, i don't bash gomez,

but his contract i bash,

and that is bob's new noose around his neck

7.5 for 50-55 point guy, that is great

We could still (well we'd have to free up a ton of cash, but it's plausible) go after him as a UFA and not have to give up any assets. No chance in hell Kovalchuk re-signs in NJ IMO.

It would have made absolutely no sense for Montreal to go after Kovy now. We're not a Kovalchuk away from a Cup, that's for sure.

have to sign him, before that trade would make sense to go down

The door is still open for Atlanta to throw that money at him this summer, the door hasn't closed for Waddell.

Why would we want to?

This team is more than a Kovalchuk away from competing, and if he walks this summer then we're even further away.

I told you he wasn't coming here.

It's not a rumour, it's a done deal, but for what isn't fully ironed out. A bud of mine said Salemla is going with Kovi.

I think that we could have got him for the value of a rental but once he plays in Montreal there is no way he'd leave. Risky for sure, but the reward would have been amazing. Then again he walks on July 1 and you look like an idea

Especially when Lamoriello succeeding in swapping the 2nd rounders....So losing a 1st is almost irrelevant.. So Oduya has considerably slowed down offensively. Cormier might be fine but we'll see. Bergfors is the key to that trade.

Funny I read today that NJ was the darkhorse for this trade. I couldn't believe it until I read about how Marty is aging and L isn't getting any younger either. I thought this would put them over the top as long as Zajac wasn't going the other way.

Crazy.

Lou is a smart GM. Kovalchuk is guaranteed to resign in Jersey. They compete every year. Unlike the Habs.
