Would JP Dumont be a good fit?

http://blogs.tennessean.com/predator...-reduced-role/

Apparently, he's getting very low icetime (less than 10 minutes) because Trotz is unsatisfied by his defensive involvement. This is a little surprising since it's its 4th year under Trotz, and he's been very successfull there.

I think he would be a good fit here with our current lack of offense. The perfect guy for a 2nd line. He's 6'2", is consistent offensively (20g-40a-60pts), he's a Quebecer and has experience under very demanding coaches (Trotz and Ruff).

What could we give to get him? Pacioretty + D'Agostini?

I wouldn't offer MaxPac. I don't know how we could get him. Usually teams unsatisfied with players will settle for something low. My offer of 2nd + D'Agostini seemed to work to get Poni, probably work for this guy too.

On a sidenote -- does anybody remember when he was publicly saying he would sign in Montreal, but the consensus was his $3.2-ish asking offer was way too much.

He's been @ 65+ points a year ever since...

That's not the actual story, as I remember it. He said he would take a paycut to play in Montreal. However, we already signed samsonov that summer and we couldn't sign him and fit under the cap. They were no such pricetag we couldn't offer him.

i definitely wouldnt mind him on the team, he would start on the 1st/2nd line
he would also be a good fit on the 3rd line with lets say, metro and moen/sk when ak and cammy come back

Dumont would be a very nice fit in Montreal... but the deals some are proposing here just wouldn't work, imo.

Not because of the trade value, but because of salary considerations.

Dumont is making $4 million a year, and for this year and two more. He's worth it, imo, but if you add him, the Habs still need to shed more salary than what D'Ago and/or Patches is making.

Something like Spacek and a pick and/or a prospect would make more sense salary cap wise. Not sure if Nashville could use a defenseman though.

Spacek would be useless in Nashville .
Dumont would probably cost a 2nd and a good prospect .

yeah he was one of the rare player who publicly admitted he would like to play in montreal

he was a good player with a good upside for the rest of his career and we wouldnt get creative a tad to fit him in..samsonov was suppose to overwhelm us with his greatness and make us all feels like fools!

side notes ; samsonov was very good at spinning and spinning and spinning and fooling around

ill never forget him...rarely you see an athlete go down like samsonov did..he just lose it instantly..just like Chris Drury this year..

4 mil is a big hit... however I would be more than happy to get him. Trade one of Hammer or Spacek (Hammer would be easier to trade... get a pick that we used to get dumont)

Cammy Pleks Dumont
Pouliot Gomez Gionta
Akost Lapierre Skost
Darche Metro Moen

Markov OB
Spacek Gorges
Gill Bergy

Halak

Since the bros only pass to each other while on the same line, Lapierre would be such a handy center for them by going in front of the net and winning battles along the boards.. and most importantly, winning faceoffs!! FFS he is our best faceoff man. USE HIM!

Could be the booze talking too though... im gonna go to bed.

Lapierre is having a bad season, he will definitely bounce back... dont forget how great he was last year. Don't make the same mistake u made with Pleks.

Anyways there are other things we could give away... doesnt have to be lapierre...

Metro is a better fit to play with the K Bros IMO!

He just spoke about the salary cap, and you come back with a proposal that doesn't send salary the other way... do you know anything about how it works ?

They'd need to take a relatively high cap hit back.
