Flyers acquire Ville Leino from Detroit for OK Tollefsen + '11 5th round pick

Quote:
With a number of injured forwards nearing a return to health, the Detroit Red Wings were left with too many quality players and not enough space to play them.

To ease the backlog, the Wings on Saturday traded left wing Ville Leino to the Philadelphia Flyers for defenseman Ole-Kristian Tollefsen and a fifth-round pick in the 2011 Entry Draft.

The Wings signed the undrafted Leino in the summer of 2007 following a stellar career in the Finnish Elite League. In 2007-08 he had 28 goals and 77 points in 59 games with Jokerit, and was named league MVP.

He spent most of last season with the Wings’ AHL team, the Grand Rapids Griffins, where he scored 46 points in 57 games, good for fifth on the team. He then led the club in scoring in the playoffs with 13 points in 10 games..

Wings trading Leino to Philly must mean Franzen is getting close

Cap scenario:

Leino makes $800K this year AND next year when he is a UFA.

Bye Wolfy,
Should we warn the Red Wings board?

I care. We get rid of one of the worst D-men in the league, plus one of the worst posters on this board.

THANKS, HOMER!

The fact they got anything for OKT makes this a win.

The fact that Detroit was willing to cough up Leino, who it seems soured rather quick, makes me wonder. The guy has absolutely has skill, but does he have NHL game?

Tollefsen + 5th for Leino is a win.

We don't need Tollefsen, and I'm sure Wolfy will have more fun on the Detroit boards. Holmgren did say he was looking for forwards.

I don't understand. As much as a I don't really care for Tollefson, we should be carrying a 7th defenseman considering the Phantoms current D crop, eh? What are we doing if one of our current 6 gets injured in the immediate future?

And what do we need with Leino? Is there a forward injury I'm unaware of? Our forwards are set. There's no one he should be replacing. Is he taking over Pyorala's spot as a 13th forward to carry? Is it really necessary to trade assets to fulfill that role?

I'm confused about this altogether I guess.

I'm a tad confused on this one, who in our forwards sits for Leino?

There's one reason (Pyorala), the other is that when Syvret and Parent come back, OKT would have been waived anyways probably. You get something for what was essentially nothing to begin with.

No, not Asham Powe and Leino battling for that spot is fine, Asham usually brings his stuff every single game.

The 5th is from 11 so we will have our first as well.

Well, I definitely wouldn't sit Asham and then at some point, I'm counting on Giroux to move back into the top-6 and Powe to center the 3rd line.

It's not a bad depth trade and getting rid of Tollefsen is nice, but do we really need to give up more picks?

I'm going to be annoyed as hell if somebody in the bottom 6 sits for Leino. Those guys are fine. It's virtually everyone in the top 6 that needs to pick it up.

Asham has 11 points in 15 games or something, he isn't going anywhere.
