Homer does want to trade for a scoring forward so maybe another deal is coming.

I don't understand the need from a player standpoint. At Hockey's Future, Leino is listed as the Red Wings' second-highest "prospect", but they have two goaltenders in the top 5. Wouldn't that have been a better return?

An article from February 4:

http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2010..._ville_le.html

Quote:
When a Red Wings forward has become a press box fixture because Brad May and Kirk Maltby have out-played him, you'd think that that player should know he's in dire straits (with no offense to May or Maltby intended) in the eyes of Detroit's coaching staff, but Ville Leino insisted to MLive.com's own Ansar Khan that he has no worries regarding his status...

February 4, MLive.com: "You can't really think about it,'' Leino said. "Obviously, it's crossed everybody's mind who's on the (bubble). It's going to happen if it's going to happen. Nothing you can do about it right now.''

The Red Wings need to trim about $700,000 to get under the salary cap before activating Johan Franzen, who is scheduled to return Tuesday. Leino, a healthy scratch the past six games, appears most vulnerable to being traded for future considerations or waived. He has struggled during his rookie season, with four goals, seven points and a minus-10 rating in 42 games.

"On the ice right now, I feel pretty good. I feel I'm practicing and doing the stuff I used to do,'' Leino said. "I actually feel pretty confident. We'll see what's going to happen now.''

Well, how far out are each of those guys? Parent's done for a long while, eh? Is Syvret coming back sooner than I thought? We should've been holding on to Tolly until the moment Syvret is ready.

Alright guys... well if its not Powe or Asham..

Then JVR? Hartnell? Gagne? Carcillo? Lappy?

He's gonna play so someone is going to have to sit. Also I think this is a...change of scenery... type of deal.

Here is what I gotta say about Leino. That guy is just garbage. He just doesnt play like he gives a damn. He's going to piss you flyer fans off quick if he plays the same here.

Strength:
-Good hands
-good vision
-can do fancy moves (go tube his first nhl goal vs. washington

Weakness:
-Slowest player on your team now regardless who the other person is
-never keeps his feet moving/floats
-gets knocked off the puck quick
-when he makes a move, he's so slow that it never works because the defenseman can get back in time to fix his mistake.

I wish him the best. As a Wing's fan, this is making me a happy morning. Ive seen KO play a lot and I just wish Leino doesnt play this bad for you guys.

Well, I'd rather have him as a 13th forward than Cote at least.

Asham. Sorry guys. I'm very confident it's going to be Asham.

Well, that is if anyone sits at all.

It shows they'd rather call someone up from the Phantoms, or take their chances of another trade or waiver pickup, than use OKT again.

Leino has talent, he showed promise last year. Hopefully he can become a solid player for us, we gave up essentially nothing. I call this a win for us.

Yeah, I agree that if someone is going to be sitting for Leino, it's going to be Asham. I completely disagree with it, but I do think it will be the case. Holmgren pisses me off.

Adding depth for injuries up front probably. Giving OKT a chance to play somewhere possibly. Leino has a skill-set and I thought Detroit was pretty high on him earlier in the season. Maybe brace ourselves for a more significant move? I could be wrong, but IMO there are a lot of guys in our line up playing hurt. We're not hearing about it but some of these guys just look off and unable to do things that we're accustomed to seeing them do.

Why?

- Asham is a scrapper.
- Asham has a nice playmaking touch.
- Asham has at least some chemistry with JVR.
- Asham isn't great defensively, but better than Leino.

Makes no sense to sit up for Leino, if they keep putting Giroux at C, it might be Powe, otherwise, I think it's a depth acquisition.

BTW, last time the Flyers made a trade with the Red Wings: October 5, 1993 (they made 4 trades in 1993 alone)

Detroit newspaper says the Flyers, Wings and Kings are interested in Slava Kozlov.

Personally... I dont think they would trade a regular on Detroit, use a draft pick, just to sit in the box.

Just saying... its not how the Flyers do things.

Sounds like Leino was no longer a regular.

Haha.

I think this makes Powe the 13th forward for now. Or at least him and Leino alternate. Hopefully we waive Cote. Powe is a good 13th forward with versatility

With Kovalchuk traded, I think you can forget that, unless it's a lateral trade for a scoring forward.

Asham will almost certainly (and should) sit if this guy is in the lineup tonight. Yes he is a scrapper, but so is half the team. Asham does not have a nice playmaking touch. His chemistry with JVR (and Giroux for that matter) is there but not more than any out of the ordinary. I don't know too much about Leino's defense so I can't talk about that. Leino, from what I have seen, has a scoring touch. He's not gonna put up 50 goals, but JVR and Giroux would both benefit from having a scorer on their line. I'm cool with Leino starting over Asham or Leino being the 13th forward. I think Leino would do better but it wouldn't be a huge upgrade so either way. I think Powe should definitely not sit though. It should be Asham or no one.
