The best part was when the couple with the Kovy and Kari jersey's were walking out, and Don said they could go to the team store and get refunds.

Great summary. A lot of stuff was said you got tons of it down.

I wrote a summary, might be a few new things here or there, but Chucky has bulk of it.

http://www.birdwatchersanonymous.com...-travails-team

I was half surprised nobody started shouting or got so angry they started spitting out epitaphs. The hostile questions were well phrased.

Falconer:

Your blog about the "great Saturday night" was perfect. The word UNPEXPECTED was bang on!

After reading your take and also reflecting on the night wondering, "what really went on last night?" I think the ownership and management may have realized (finally) that Atlanta is not a newbie hockey experience and we aren't just wonky rednecks asking for the circus experience. I think they grew up some and realized we just want a winner.

To that point, Waddell made a quick comment: "We know we only have 3 hours to entertain you fans." There was a rumble in the section where I was sitting -- people said, "just win games." Maybe the ownership figured it out.

Thanks Chucky... Great recap!

Was there any indication of how we're going to approach the deadline? Trades other than Lehts?

Don said we'd definitely be buyers. We have all kinds of cap money now. I saw Levenson nod his head in agreement.

If we do win 2 of 3 on this road trip, I think it will be interesting because it appears the chemistry is there. We could add a scorer, but then who do you get rid of? OH YA, Kozlov, I would guess.

Last night the players were soooo emotional. If we do win 2 of 3 out west, I'd be fine with what we have. But Kozzy really looked to be a page behind at times.

Most of the March games are at home. I think the biggest player will actually be the CROWDS! yes, us.

This team is full of kids now and they really fed off the fan suppport and got stronger as the game went on even after playing the night before and spending 10 hours in travel. Call me nuts, I know it's been just one game, but I think it's possible.

On Kozlov....It's so funny how guys can look fine for years, and then it's like they hit a brick wall. I think Father Time catching up with Slava is exacerbated by the speedy youngsters we have right now as well. In comparison, he looks like he's horribly slow. Don't get me wrong, he's lost a step for sure, but the comparative speed of those around him makes it look worse.

I think we have the tools to get it done though. The boys are backed up against the wall now, and there's nothing left to do other than come out guns blazing.

Would anyone be willing to part with the Devils 1st if it meant Burke taking White and the remaining $2.4 for Poni?

I'd do that. White's the odd center out and just doesn't seem to fit with the style they are trying to employ. And Poni would be a damn fine player to have down the stretch. I wonder what it would take to re-sign him. This deal also frees up a center spot for Cormier next year.

No way. We got two quality players in the 2nd round last year. That first cannot be squandered on a rental.

Thanks Chucky.

On the postgame radio show, Waddell was asked what pieces might be added at the deadline for a playoff push. He stated that they thought the D was in good shape, even with Valabik's injury. Schubert should be back after the olympics.

He said they'd like to add more size up front - especially someone who could create some havoc on the forecheck.

Anybody like that we could get for Lehtonen?

We did get great picks, but we're not going to see Morin or Klingberg for a couple more years. Plus... I think the fact that we have them and now Cormier in the system tells me the Devs first is expendable. I also think we'd have a good shot at re-signing Poni

we're happy we finally have more than one or two real nhl prospects in the system, why not keep adding to it so we don't find ourselves with a bare cupboard once some of these guys start coming up. i know waddell said on the radio that he was happy he had multiple picks to use in a trade now but we shouldn't blow them on a rental when playoffs aren't assured

DW did mention that they have two 1sts, one 2nd and two 3rds in the draft right now, which suggested they might be willing to part with a pick for the right player addition.

We need to talk to Boston:

Get Kozlov to waive his no-trade clause and send Kozlov under the veil of "powerplay specialist" and take back Byron Bitz. That would be my dream move.

Interesting note from watching the New Jersey/Rangers replay....the Jersey TV guy mentioned quotes from players and said, "Slava Kozlov said the Thrashers were going to have a very hard time going forward without Kovalchuck."

If I were in charge, he just made the trade "on-deck" circle if he would give a list of teams that he'd waive the NTC.

No way we could pry Cal Clutterbuck from Minnesota, but that would be a perfect guy.

Ryan Clowe from San Jose? Big body, rumored available.

I'd love Byfuglien from Chicago! 6'4" 260!
Patrick Sharp isn't big but he's probably available for prospects and a mid pick.

Then again, maybe he will go after Poni. Give up our 2nd and Michalek or Holzapfel, or both for all I care. We have a young as hell team right now. No big turnover for a few years and we have better stuff waiting in Cormier, Morin, Klingberg, Koper, and O'Dell.

I know the guy who got the mic second. His question didn't ever involve Heatley. From what I heard, most of the questions there caught D-Wad off-balance, as he was expecting the questioning to revolve around Kovalchuk.

I'm glad D-Wad got hit with some hard questions. Especially from a fan born and raised in Georgia who watched the Flames play their home games back in the 70s. Fans of his type are rare around here, and even more rare at games these days given the mediocrity the team has been mired in.

I like the Byfuglien and Sharp deals, but they won't be available (if they even are) until the offseason. Chicago is fine for the rest of the year, cap wise, and I think they're going to shoot their wad this season trying to win the cup. They'll have to deal with cap casualties later.

As far as trades are concerned, I'd love Ponikarovsky. I think he'd re-sign, but he's prob'ly the most sought-after forward right now. May be expensive to get him; I know Nashville fans are salivating for him. But, Burke does have a good relationship with DW, so, who knows. The guy I really want, we likely couldn't get. Dustin Penner is exactly what this team needs, but since he's been playing so well in Edmonton this year, I sincerely doubt we could acquire him. Unless, of course, the new Oilers regime thinks he's expendable in the name of better/faster/younger. I'd be OK with a 2nd rounder plus, say, Holzapfel or something for him.

Oh, and Chucky, Machacek is down on the farm. Michalek is rocking it out in Ottawa.
