Steve Zipay is the Rangers THN writer. He replaced Larry Brooks. No idea why the change was made. Zipay revealed the Rangers top 10 for THN Future Watch
Quote:
Here's how the upcoming Hockey News Future Watch is expected to rank (in order) the Rangers top 10 prospects, based on scouts, etc...
Derek Stepan, Chris Kreider, Evgeny Grachev, Bobby Sanguinetti, Ryan McDonagh, Chad Johnson, Ethan Werek, Scott Stajcer, Mike Sauer, Ryan Bourque. Surprised?
Stajcer in the top 10? Don't really agree with that. I like him as a prospect, but he's still a project right now.

Grachev who was 19th overall
MDZ who was 32nd overall
AA who was 48th overall
Sanguinetti who was 52nd overall
Stepan
Byers
Baranka
Potter
Sauer
Kveton
McDonagh was 37th overall
THN ranks the top 75 prospects and players 21 and under in the NHL are used to determine the overall team grade so MDZ will be part of the Rangers grade.
Chad Johnson may never be a starter for the Rangers but I wouldn't go so far yet as to say he'll never be a starting NHL goaltender. He's had a pretty good 1st professional season. I've been impressed. Right now he's the number 2 guy in the organization.
good group ...props to Sather for not panicking and trading them away like this org has done for decades...maybe this org has finally turned the corner.
Michael Del Zotto -8.5B
Derek Stephan - 8.0C
Evgeny Grachev - 7.5 B
Chris Kreider - 7.5 C
Ryan McDonagh - 7.5C
Artem Anisomov - 7.0 B
Bobby Sanguinetti- 7.5C
Chad Johnson - 7.5B
Mat Gilroy- 7.0B
Michael Sauer - 7.0 C

Zipay is a good beat writer but c'on, how often is he watching our prospects? Has he seen a game in HFD this season?
Seems like he saw the WJCs and threw all 3 in the top 10, and slots 1 and 2.
Not really disagreeing with his choices as they are (cept Stajcer), but his list doesn't mean anymore then anyone elses list here. He's bases it on scouts also, but we've all read their comments about players as well.
Don Waddell wanted one of the Rangers top 3 and their #1 pick in June plus either Staal or MDZ and Dubinsky or Callahan for a rental
Staal or MDZ
Dubinsky or Callahan
Kreider or Grachev or Stepan
1st round pick(10)
for Kovalchuk
Are you ****ing kidding? Waddell is a moron. Staal and MDZ are waaaayyy better then Bergfors, Dubinsky pretty even with Oduya, Kreider/Grachev/Stepan are 10 times more valuable then Cormier and our 1st round pick most likely will be more valuable then the devils.

No kidding here

Rather, with the impending free agent being offered only as a rental, it's the price in return that Waddell is demanding from the Rangers that has stopped Sather's pursuit in its tracks.
A well-placed source has told The Post the Thrashers have set the cost as Michael Del Zotto or Marc Staal; plus Brandon Dubinsky or Ryan Callahan; plus Derek Stepan or Chris Kreider or Evgeni Grachev; plus a first-round draft choice.
Apparently, Waddell forgot to ask for the deed to the Radio City Music Hall.

THN's rankings are terrible, every year. Not once did they rank our prospects better than I did when I reviewed it a few years later. Just horrible rankings for individual teams. Top 50 is a little better, but not great either.
