I propose Pierre McGuire...

He's dynamic (Burke type), he knows a lot about prospects, he knows the game and the new nhl, etc.

He also worked for the Senators organization, so he's qualified to work for the Habs.

And let see if he can put his money where his mouth is.

If anything, McGuire would be entertaining as hell.

I propose anyone BUT McGuire. He looks good on paper but hasn't received an offer to work in the league for years. He's skin is too think imo judging by the way he (over)reacts to callers on Team990 when he says something fans don't like and most importantly, he has ZERO GM experience in a market that basically demands perfection.

I could see a disaster if he were made the GM and the club taking a major step back.

Here are the chances in order:

1) Pierre McGuire
2) Serge Savard
3) Patrick Roy

Give Mcguire a shot, why not? There's still that catchy two word phrase if he screws up................. YOUR'E FIRED.

On CKAC, some guy is saying that the Habs are looking at or waiting for Steve Yzerman to be the new replacement GM. He didn't go into much detail.

I hope it's Tallon. He would be great.

I also wouldn't be against McGuire. Would also be for Yzerman. We'll see what happens here. I just don't want Gauthier as permanent GM.

Maybe the Molson's want to trade Price and go with Halak, maybe Gainey has stood by Price and alot of other players against the wishes of ownership, so maybe they are letting it look like a resignation so Gainey can part ways in a peaceful manner.

That would be a disaster waiting to happen. If he was that smart he would have STAYED in management...see Perron, Bergeron, etc

I DON'T WANT a Burke-type, I want a Chiarelli type that can operate in the cap world and realise that sometimes taking one step back to take 2 forward in the best move(Kessel trade) and he keeps his players signed long term ahead of UFA(Savard).

Burke is a blowhard that has just continued the JFJ regime of poor cap and asset management.

And maybe he would replace Jacques Martin by Jacques Demers.

According to some posters in here, no one on the planet can do a better job than a 15th overall average ranking (since Gainey took the helm) despite always being in the top10 in terms of payroll.

I mean... 2-3M$/year to be the Montreal Canadiens GM... who would be interested eh?

PS Julien Brisebois, Jacques Martin, Pierre McGuire, André Savard, Patrick Roy... and plenty of "English" candidates would also be able to do a great job... I just don't know them! Steve Yzerman, Bobby Smith... ? Who is Tallon?

I am not sure about that; contrary to the coach, the GM does not address the media (the link with the fans/customers) on a daily basis. Plus... how hard is it to learn French when you already know English (or vice versa)?

It's never going to happen! Yzerman is taking over the Detroit job and Holland will become the president etc.

It will be McGuire, Savard or Roy!

I bet this is the first place they will look for a potential GM.

Chiarelli lack of competent cap management made him lose Kobasew and Kessel. Their wingers are basically junk; Satan & Paille on 1st line. Handing out big contracts to Ryder, Lucic, Thomas, Krecji, Morris has put them in a world of hurt.

At least Burke is eager to make his team better and does not make the same mistakes over and over and over again.
