"The great misconception about the Devils is that the franchise has been a collection of faceless and interchangeable drones operating under Big Brother's eyes and heavy thumb. It always has been nonsense."

Amen, Larry.

Should be required reading for the countless clueless clones on the main board and elsewhere, who feed their own feeble minds with fiction about how and why this organization succeeds.

I can't believe Larry Brooks wrote that article.

Of course Brooks wrote it. It's a passive aggressive shot at the flailing Rangers.

Normally not a Brooks fan, but it's a good read. Nice part about Burke's son at the end too.

There's no telling just how Don Waddell's demands for a package featuring Wayne Simmonds and Jack Johnson from L.A., or for one featuring Marc Staal and Ryan Callahan from the Rangers, or for one featuring Tuukka Rask and David Krejci or Milan Lucic from Boston evolved into taking the one from New Jersey fronted by Johnny Oduya and Niclas Bergfors, but if the Atlanta GM can sleep well at night after making his Kovalchuk deal with the Devils, well, then more power to him.
These are the actual players Wadell wanted for Kovalchuk?

Yes, and I understand why LA said no. Jackson's potential is way above Oduya's, and you can't trade a player like Simmonds for a rental, just like we can't trade a player like Clarkson for a rental.

I heard the L.A. proposal of Simmonds & Johnson and also knew that Boston & NYR were also involved, but I don't recall hearing the names of actual players that were rumored to be on the block.

From the rangers they wanted one of Stall or Del Zotto, one of Cally or Dubi and one of Grachev, Krieder or Stepan and 1st rd pick

Watching him clash with Tortorella is pretty good comedy.

Maybe Brooksie is looking for a job with the team again. That, or just trying to take a veiled shot at the Rangers because that's the thing to do this season, especially for him.
