Alrite so not to many beer leaguers would need this (well maybe a few, lol) but I thought this was a good article even to share with the younger players. I wrote it for my hockey tips website. The goal is to have good, easy to follow information all in one spot. Would love to get some feedback either in the comments on the article or in here. Thanks guys here is the article - How to take a slapshot
Hey guys, wondering if anyone else has some slapshot tips, or shooting tips in general. Something that has helped you increase accuracy, or power, or score more goals. I found using a weighted puck helped my wrist shot a lot. I would love to hear your personal experience and what has helped you.
Look at the net when shooting even if your shot sucks you will score more. The good players already know that but it is one of the most common beer league mistakes I see anyway.
I hear things like "How do you score so much playing defense" ... I look at what I am shooting at is the short answer to that. How many times can a guy just shoot blindly and hit the goalie in the crest before he realizes why that happens?
From my experience in high school and before always keep your head up at the net. Try and find were you want the puck to go to, and fire away. Like the poster before stated don't look down and shoot.
We just had a big topic on this, check the next page.
The OP mentioned beer league guys would not need this info, I mentioned looking at the net in beer league because guys don't whether shooting slapshots or wristers.
Point taken though and you are correct.
One thing I could add though is that we get at least 2 or 3 "My slapshot needs help" or "My backhander is ass" threads a week. I tried searching threads for this forum only and have not been able to unless I am doing something wrong.
It would save people a lot of hassle if they could just search for a slapshot thread instead of making 3 a week. I am about ready to just copy and paste the same answers over and over again in Microsoft Word and keep reusing it.
haha, woops. I guess I should frequent this forum more than I do! When I do I am usually just reading the NHL stuff and what I have to say has already been said, so I end up reading and not posting.
I will check out the other forums. I guess the difference is I posted offering help, rather than asking for it. Maybe the mods could make sticky's for shooting help. I would be happy to offer the links to my sites as sticky's and I would add any tips that Hfboard members have. (actually I am adding them right now to the slapshot article )
I have added some of the tips from this forum to my article! Hope this will help players who are searching for help Thanks guys. One is yours Hockeyfan68
If you guys are interested I am starting to work on an article on how to improve the power of my slapshot. I bought a radar gun and I will test my speed now and then work on tweaking technique to see how much of a difference that makes, and then some workouts, and see how much of a difference that makes. It will take me a few months but I will post the article on my site when it is ready, and drop a link here as well.
I agree, I think a low backswing is good for firing off a quick shot. Once you get a bit better then a bigber backswing is good for really hammering the rockets.
do you slide your lower hand up the shaft towards the blade, then it slides back to a mid-point on the stick when you take a slapshot, or do you keep your lower hand at one point throughout the shot.

During the wind up your bottom hand should naturally find it's spot on the shaft. Well maybe it is natural after you do it over and over
