I'm going to guess we have to change that 2nd to the Devils 1st (remember, our 2nd is now going to be late 2nd).

Not worth a new thread because of the source, but apparently there was 2 Thrashers scouts along with B's and Pens at the Toronto game last night.

On his Twitter, James Mirtle stated there were 15 teams scouting the Leafs-Sharks game.

Red Wings, Habs, Flyers, Blackhawks, Oilers, Bruins, Thrashers, Avs, Blues, Preds, Kings, Penguins, Rangers, Devils and Wild.

You think he's due for a big raise?

He's a consistant 20 goal scorer but he already makes 2.1mil; I really don't see him making a penny over 3.

Look at Mikael Samuelsson for example. Vancouver pays him 2.5mil and he's on pace for 27 goals. Granted he's slightly older and doesnt have as many 20 goal seasons under his belt (mostly due to 3rd line minutes/linemates in Detroit) but many would argue he is worth more due to his playoff experience.

I see Poni getting a comparable 3 yr 7.5mil deal in the offseason. If I were TO, I would keep him for that.

I know you put a lot of work into this stuff so I don't want to take you to task, but here's the problem with pacing out partial numbers over 82 games.

-In your scenario you have Poni listed as a guy that averages 24 Goals, but in reality his career high over 9 NHL seasons is....23 goals.
-In your scenario Poni's numbers pace out to 59 points, but in 9 NHL seasons he's topped 50 points exactly one time in his NHL career.

You can make averages to look like whatever you want, but when you really compare Poni against a lot of these guys their actual concrete numbers are better. You list him above Knuble, but Knuble has actually averaged 29 goals since the lockout (not paced out over an 82 game season).

I'm certainly not saying that he couldn't slide in and be effective on some of these teams, because he could, but guys like Geurin, Kunitz, Elias, Langenbrunner, Samuelsson, etc own more than just stats. A bunch of these guys have won multiple cups, a bunch of these guys are physical players.

Poni, like Antropov last year, is a bit of a gamble in terms of what you're going to get come playoff time. If you're depending on him to get you over the hump to win a cup, then you're most likely not a contending team. If you're adding him for some depth secondary scoring, then you're probably in good shape. Teams don't give up 1st round picks and top prospects for depth and secondary scoring at the deadline.
