Given his comparative record vs. Huet on the Habs, most GMs and coaches would have considered him to be a #1 for their team either right away or a couple of years in the future. Besides, you don't know if Halak won't turn out to be another Carrey or Raycroft.

Price could turn out that way as well.

i don't know what he's going to do, but i don't think that because he worked with gainey and was next in line under him and got promoted to his position, that he is going to be exactly like bob. i'm sure he has his own vision of how things should be run, so i'll be optimistic about it.

if bob stepped down/was let go, it's because the ownership wants to go in a different direction and hired accordingly. i don't see why they would appoint someone as GM if they were going to do the same thing as their predecessor.

It's a fair trade but I will be reluctant to do this. Imagine you have to face him 6 times a year and may have to face him in the playoff. If we have to trade him, trade him to Western team. This way, we only have to face him 2 time a year. If we see him in the playoff, it means we get to the final.

Guys, who's the softest, most undersized skilled european in the league? That's who were going to get. For Price.

Last year's Tomas Plekanec? (I wonder if David Krejci is available)

He will attempt to resign Pleks, and after picking himself up off the floor from hearing Pleks agent say "we want 6.5" He will trade Pleks......

Wrong! The Sens were trying to move up from 10 to get him. He was a top ten pick. If he wasn't taken by Montreal at 5 he would have likely been taken in the next couple picks. Anyway, doesn't matter. I think Halak is a very good goalie; but I don't think he's the future. Price is more than just hype. He's done some impressive things in a short period of time.

The most relevant thing is this....we're not a contender right now and I think it'll be a couple years before it could happen. Lets give Price that time and give him a veteran to carry some of the load. If Pitts gave up on Fleury the way people want to give up on Price, where would they be? Look at Luongo's development. We need to be patient! Adding a player by trading Price isn't going to make us a contender. I'm willing to hitch my trailer on Price and start insulating him a little.

It wasn't off the board, it was off the reservation. He was ranked to go in the top 10 and TSN had him to go 7th overall as you can see in the video.

Not True

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_nhl_entry_draft

Has him ranked as the number 1 Goaltender

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/article...005_nhl_draft/

ISS Has him at 10

TSN had him at 7
http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/feature/?id=7006

that draft was funky, Johnson hasn't lived up to expectations yet, Pouliot is only starting too now , Brule is kinda, SKille No, Setoguchi kinda, Brian Lee Kinda, Bourdon RIP

I say its still a awesome pick and for all those people who say what about Kopitar, 5 other teams passed on him so it wasn't just us who thought something might be up.

edit: He was the consensus best goaltender available in the draft and they even say in that video that Price was ranked anywhere from mid teens to top 5

Man, watching that clip hurt because when they drafted him I was in shock and also disappointed. It's so funny how Pierre was bang on back then. They still haven't addressed the need to have a big center down the middle. It's baffling

My biggest fear, is him trading away a top prospect like Subban (who I think will be a star for us) for a veteran top 6 forward at the deadline or something like that..

One positive, is he seems to want to keep both goaltenders. Not sure how that will work though, considering they're both RFA's at the end of the year..
My biggest fear is him NOT trading away our OVERRATED prospects ( not Subban ) and not reviewing our draft strategy and essentially stay the course, which should be CLEAR NOW that is flawed. If he doesn't initiate rebuilding this summer Boisvin & Molson will have to find someone who can and will.

Gauthier needs to move Spacek because he's out of place on the right side, he's old, and his contract is eating cap space this team doesn't have to spare. Mara needs to go now because he won't be back next year, and same for Metropolit. No need for those 3 guys, and if he can get 3 picks for those guys, then he'll prove to be an upgrade on BG.

WOW! I totally agree with you. Very good point! BG could not get anything from our dead wood. So any pic for those guys would be good.

What prospects are overrated and what should he trade them for?

Spacek is currently playing in the top 4, with Bergeron being out, I don't see any d-men being moved unless another is coming back. No GM in his right mind who is in or near a playiff spot has a firesale.

Well said. I don't see Eberle as NHL material. John Slaney was a WJ hero and was a career AHL player, and he could skate.

I think he'll be an NHLer, just not a great prospect or a guy that will be an impact player.
