You could have signed Streit as the author instead of Plekanec; same ol', same ol'.

Ohh, this means he is gone, just like when the GM gives the coach a vote of confidence.

Not many other options at centre, I'd like to see Plekanec back. We'd have two solid playmaking 1b centres and 4 snipers on wing, it's a great setup and very entertaining.

I'd love to actually see this top 6 together for an extended period without injuries . I think it's underestimated and one of the better top 6's in the league. We've only seen glimpses of it during the brief periods when most of it was healthy.

Hope Plekanec is serious and not just making the mandatory noises, he does give the impression as a sincere, hardworking, serious person.

I don't see him leaving.

He is clearly the #1 center of this team.

Problem with Souray, Streit, Komi, etc. was that they thought they were bigger than what they were with us.

Souray wanted to be a #1
Komi a #2
and
Streit a #2 or 3

Plekanec will surely ask to be a #1
and Gauthier won't refuse that.
If he refuses, that's a big fail.

I love it here and I don't see myself playing anywhere else that doesn't offer me more money.

Now that I've read the article, I see I was right.

Once we sign Plek, I'd like to see Gauthier pull a slather :

trade Gomez on June 30th and sign Marleau (as Sather signed Gabo) on July 1st.

Well, it is a two-way street. You can't hang it all on the player if he leaves unless the team is offering market value. Like he said, there's been a phone call so far, they've not reached negotiation yet. But it does seem promising given his and Gauthier's comments, and I think Montreal has to re-sign Plekanec with the way he's played this year. No point in letting him go unless you think there's a better option, which I doubt there is.

Exactly, when was the last time the Habs received a hometown discount? Brisebois?

Not enough, I could see Waddel offering 5.25 avg - now that is about 1.5M per year more in after tax money. Even Calgary would be tempted.

I see Plekanec testing the UFA market since he can really hit the jackpot. He's the best player along with Kovalchuk in the UFA market.

I liked this part of the article where Josh Gorges talks about Bob Gainey:

"I was in and out of the lineup and wasn't playing a whole lot," he recalled. "I remember in Ottawa where I was scratched for a game and (Bob) said, 'Come meet with me.' I thought for sure I was going to be sent down or traded again. But he just wanted to talk - settle me down and tell me how things were going to look. He helped me through it. I was ready to pack it in and he actually took me aside to give me that boost of confidence to keep going and keep fighting.

"I respect him so much - not just because of his position with the team, but because of the person he is."

shows you that Gainey brought more positives to the table than just those we can see on paper.

Ribeiro got 5, 3 years ago.

depending on if we start to make sense and use the CBA (a)
or
if we just continue to go as we do now (b)

(a) 45M / 10 years
8-6-6-5-5-4-4-3-2-1

(b) 22 / 4 years
5.5M per

any of these two deals, I say we make out like bandits, considering that a good center on the FA market would more likely be 5.5-6M forever or 7-7.5M for short term.

lol why??

Gomez is a better passer than Marleau, and is playing well with his two sniper wingers (Gionta & Pouliot). Marleau will cost 7 million anyways.

I think you're close here, but I think Pleks is going to accept something just a bit lower.

I believe you're right on with the 4 year contract, though.

Look for a 4M - 4.2M cap hit.

Think Marc Savard.
