I Like Briere, but if we can move his contract( 5 years after this one!) then we do it, it really will help us to keep JVR and Giroux and Carter in the next few years

Turco has decline yes, but look at Dallas' defense lately too. No more zubov. Robidas is their number 1.

If Hartnell is gone, I'd feel better about the deal.

When I used to follow twitter, NHLSources was better than Ek and had more logical rumors. He also broke a lot of news before TSN or Ek did.

Out of curiosity why would Dallas take Briere if they already have Brad Richards and Mike Ribeiro at center. I realize Briere has been playing wing in Philly but its not his natural position.... I would think Hartnell would be the key Philly piece from a needs point of view on Dallas' side.

I'm not a fan of Turco, but getting rid of Briere and his contract would make me extremely happy. I know he's like 3rd in scoring on the team, but it's kind of unbelievable. I mean, whenever I watch him have the puck along on the boards it's almost 99.9% chance the other team will regain possession of the puck. When they first signed him, I was ecstatic. He was a Flyer killer and a offensive threat everytime he touched the puck. But now he's barely visible on most nights.

What does Turco make and is he a FA after this year?

UPDATE: Those Turco rumors will have to sit still for now as Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk(notes) tells Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News that for the moment, the team will carry three goaltenders.

UFA this year, and I have been watching Stars games, he had been pretty good lately and I think he would be awesome with our defense.

Maybe Turco will be that positive veteran presence this club needs. He is a pretty easy going guy and maybe he is what they need to calm things down? I dunno...

maybe his puck handling skills will help the breakout..

I think I'd rather have Briere at $6.5 million than Hartnell at $4.2 million at this point.

Turco is a UFA at years end, making 5.7 this year. Steep for this year but the fact that he is a UFA gives us a lot of flexibility.

Moving Hartnell or Briere for Turco and a forward would be worth it I think for the long run, and hopefully for now if Turco can play well

Turco is as good an option as any for the rest of this season, and if they can get Briere's contract off the books you take it and run.

5 more years of Briere at 6.5?

As frustrating as Hartnell is he still has upside. Briere is all downside at his age.

Briere's salary drops precipitously over the next few years. He'll be easier to move later on.

I'd be fine with Hartnell straight up frankly because I can't wait to get rid of him. I'd want more back for Briere.

Yeah, I dunno if Nieuwendyk would be dumb enough to take one and I'm still iffy on dealing Briere as opposed to Hartnell who just doesn't even come close to doing his job.

Clearly just read this thread and threw Hartnell's name in, he's obviously making this up, but that doesn't mean Holmgren won't pursue it.

I wouldn't count on it. His value is going to continue to decrease. At some point we'd have to give up an asset to get rid of him.

Hartnell's contract also ends sooner and he'll still be in his prime then.

This.

Replacing Briere with someone who makes 4 mil a year is great, plus we won't keep Turco. Flexibility. Moving briere is what this team needs in order to compete, unless somehow Kimmo decides to retire early.

Plus, we have Leino if necessary to step right in. How much money is he making? Plus Hartnell is a power forward on a downyear looking at needing a contract. All of this points to Briere being something that, if possible, should be moved in a major way.

Regards,
Rick
