Really important game, we need those two points. Go AVS win and re-claim top spot in NW! Duchene like to score against EC teams, so two for Matty

It'd be a sweet song if it weren't for the stupid video....lol.

Anyways, I'd love to see us take a win from the Kovalchuk-less Thrashers. Three in a row looks good to me.

Let's just hope they actually get up for this one.

I was looking forward to see Kovalchuk play. Then again, I'm glad he won't bother us tonight.

Must win for the Avs.

Just dont get behind the 8-ball like they did against the Blues. get the first goal and play with the effort they showed against the Oilers.

If we drop first, but finish 5:2 up I'm OK with that But let's hope we pay them for shut us up last year, so 5:0 AVS, Matt x2, Staz, Wolski and Yip with others

I heard they call-up Haydar, if it's true I hope he plays and has a good game. It is good if he show Red Wing they were wrong about him.

Darren Haydar.

Anyone see the ad on Altitude for the upcoming game that said "Watch superstar Kovalchuk and his thrashers take on the Avalanche" or whatever? Meanwhile it was like 4 days after Kovy was traded.

No Kovalchuk and no Lehtonen means the team is gonna be trying extra hard...

Avs lose 3-1

Pavelec is an underrated goaltender.

Are we sure Pavelec is playing? I'd rather face him than Hedberg.

Hedberg is 0-4 lifetime against AVS, why don't you want to him in net? Dater writes that Hedberg is expected to start.

Because lifetime numers tell nothing about how they will perform in the current game, and Hedberg has been MUCH better than Pavelec?

As someone stated Pavelec is really underrated goalie. Yes, Hedberg has better GAA and SV% this season, but did you checked shot against? In just four games more than Hedberg, Pavelec faced 260!! more shots, so I think he played against better teams or Atlanta plays really badly in games with him in net. I wouldn't say that Hedberg is much better.

And it's not exactly right that lifetime numbers doesn't count. AVS almost always sucks against guys like Legace or Backstrom even if they have best seasons. If goalie who is always good against you makes some good saves you start to think, how to beat him and just squeeze stick to tight and try to much. Same if you are a goalie and always sucks against some teams. Marty Turco even when he was hot had real problems against Red Wings. Mental part of game is as much important as physical on the ice. You feel extra pressure against team who owns you throughout your career.

I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS GAME ALL YEAR! KoviOduya, Bergfors, Cormier, and a 1st and LehtonenVishnevskiy and a 4th are two of my favorite non-Avs and now seeing them play against the Avs is gonna be great!

I really don't think a team knows these stats. Especially with a goaltender playing out of the opposite conference. I could see with Backstrom or Legace who they sometimes would play 6 times a season, and possible suck every time (Mostly because they've been a terrible team for the last 5 seasons) but with Hedberg who they're lucky to play once per season, and he's always on bad teams as well, I don't think you can take an 0-4 record in what 7 seasons of play? And say he can't possibly beat Colorado.

Hell the guy has almost entirely been a backup, chances are you could come up with all sorts of stats like..maybe he's never won a game on the second monday of a month, does that mean he should never be played on the second monday of a month? Even if he has a .950 sv% going?

These stats mean nothing. Especially when you're spanning several seasons.

Edit: More shots against generally means it's easier to have a BETTER save percentage. If he had a 4.00GAA and a .925 sv% I would believe he is that much better, but poor sv% and poor GAA? Means goalie isn't that good. If you don't believe me, check the shot totals for some of the guys with high sv% in the league, for the most part, more shots you have, the better your sv%.

Double edit: The team only averages 4 shots more per game for Pavelec.

Yea that was pretty silly. Altitude has to be some of the lowest production value in all of the nhl.

Par for the course for an organization that doesn't give a crap about its fans.

I personally like the "new Altitude studios" with saran wrap windows in the background.

We should be thankful Jack Edwards isn't our PBP guy. That guy straight up sucks. I have the misfortune of being in a NESN covered area and anytime the Bruins play, I can't stand listening to this guy.
