maybe danis can't play on friday? that's the only possible explanation
McKenna was signed to an AHL contract at the beginning of the year. He was then signed to an NHL contract today so he could now be called up if needed. By doing so he moves from the AHL roster to the NHL roster and then to be eligible to play in the AHL again and be put on the AHL roster, he needs to clear waivers, probably due to his experience years and not due to his AHL salary.
Matt Taormina who has an AHL contract now, if he signs an NHL contract wouldn't have clear waivers because he doesn't have the experience years McKenna has, unless his AHL salary is more than the $105,000 limit.
The same thing would have happened with Dean McAmmond if he was sent down immediately signing his contract because he started with an AHL contract I believe, played a few games for Lowell, and then was signed to an NHL contract and has been up in the NHL since.
Clune was assigned to the Ontario Reign (ECHL). Kings beat writer Rich Hammond predicts a move tomorrow for LA:
In another move, the Kings assigned Rich Clune from Manchester to Ontario of the ECHL today. It seems very likely that some type of move will take place tomorrow, so we’ll see how it shakes out in the morning.
