I believe that part of this move was centered around Boris getting injured. I hope I'm wrong because he's one of my favorites, but I can't imagine a 6'8 240 lb athlete recovering from a torn ACL real quickly. I admittedly don't know if we can do this, but he may need to start the year in Chicago for rehab.
If that's the case.... I say we re-sign Kubina, keep the other 4, and add Kulda and Vishnevsky. Shubes and Pops walk.
its a crapshoot after that. Boris is a no brainer if he fully recovers. Kulda & Vish have a lot to prove at this level. i wouldnt be surprised if Pops is retained & Schubert is likely gone imo. i wouldnt balk at all if another bottom pair, stay at home vet were brought in this summer. (Lydman type)
If only this could mean getting rid of Hainsey... the best part of his game used to be the PP but with Enstrom, Oduya, Bogo, the Vish kid, etc., he is really expendable. However, at $4M, not sure what we can do with him...
And we also have Oystrick and Welch with NHL experience as well as another really good prospect in Potsma.
For next season if we can keep Kubina that would be great and I can see the team realising Schubert and Popovic so Kulda and Vishnovskiy will have a chance at making the team with Valabik out long term.
