how you don't mention lindros when speaking of the ****** quality of our medical staff confuses me, but i agree in principle.

Put Emery on LTIR through the Olympics and save on his cap hit during that time, and make it retroactive to last Wednesday. That should put him until the end of the break.
can we do this? i'd assume that would be a given, if it's possible.

To anyone being OK with this because Leighton's still playing well, you should be primarily OK with it because the Flyers aren't going to be playing a lot in the next couple weeks. Let's just hope it doesn't go too far past three weeks.

Leighton's slowly starting to crumble.

Here's a Q & A with Holmgren:

http://blogs.courierpostonline.com/f...ough-olympics/

Quote:
Paul Holmgren on Ray Emery: Thursday, February 11, 2010

“Based on what doctors have told us, we are just going to shut Ray down here for about three weeks and give him some time to rehabilitate the hip and then we will go from there.”
Quote:
Q: Did the MRI show that he has a tear?

PH: “There are some issues there. We are hopeful that through this period he will be fine and we will be able to march ahead.”

Q: What exactly did the MRI show?

PH: “That he has a hip that is giving him some problems. I am not going to get into specifics because we are still working through some stuff here.”
Quote:
Q: How does this injury limit Ray?

PH: “Any type of up and down movement with goalies with the explosion they need when they are dropping to their knees in a butterfly and then bouncing back up, it is something we obviously need to avoid right now. The idea is to take these three weeks to strengthen the area and the muscles around that area. We are hoping this will be the right way to go.”

Q: Does this happen to other goalies?

PH: “I think a lot of goalies, Robert Esche, Sean Burke, the list is long, even going back to Hexy. Hexy had a lot of what he thought, and what we all presumed at the time, were groin issues and it turned out to be hip issues. Hexy’s had his hip fixed since that time and has no problems right now. He still can’t play (jokes). Nitty’s injury was a little bit different than this.”

Q: Are you confident that Leighton can carry the load?

PH: “I certainly feel confident in Michael Leighton right now. I think he has done a good job for us.”

I think Emery is done for the season. Going into the postseason with Leighton as our starter is not good. Even though he has played well, he remains Michael Leighton.

I won't be surprised if he's out for the season.

Well who can we grab.

I wouldn't be surprised if Emery doesn't play again this year. While I agree that it's annoying that we never seem to get a straight (or truthful) answer from Homer & Co., if he wants to make a deal for a goalie, it's hard for him to avoid getting bent over when every other GM knows that we're in a bad situation. If he wants to hide his hand, let him do it.

Not that I'm as willing as some to hit the panic button here... But what are the odds of getting Tim Thomas? Is there any trade that could work for us and the Bruins to be able to get him?

I would guess that Harnell if he waived his NTC. But I'd rather the team just bite the ****ing bullet and grab a young goalie that really is the answer or, at least, a good chance at being the answer. These stopgap moves have not served us well, though I do think that Biron was entirely serviceable during his time here. With the improvements to defense (we do have a ****ing awesome top 4, Coburn ****-ups included) he'd be putting up another .915 season. But, that being said, his time here has passed. Get Price or Halak or Rinne or Ellis if any of our bigger contracts are willing to waive their NTC/NMC and the other team is willing to take on the contract.

So then he needs to be practicing again before he plays.

It says 3 weeks, but it will be more like 4-5.
Even so, it's better to miss 2 weeks of the season than 5.

Remember when Homer said there was absolutely nothing wrong with him? Then he missed like 6 more games.

They killed John LeClair's career after he had his back operated on (not sure if anyone remembers, but while he was under the care of the Flyers medical professionals, they allowed a staph infection to get so bad that he nearly lost the ability to walk). Randy Jones, Simon Gagne, Ryan Parent, Braydon Coburn, Antero Niittymaki, Robert Esche have all had hip surgeries in which it took them a long time to recover or they were never the same player after the surgeries. They nearly destroyed Briere's groin and abdomen, they misdiagnosed Gagne's concussion from the 07-08 season as "dehydration" and they held off on Parent's back surgery and when they finally committed to the back surgery, they said the recovery time was only six to eight weeks. However, David Bolland in Chicago had the exact same surgery and he was sidelined for 13 weeks and 1 day.

They need to be fired. I understand that teams are going to suffer injuries and such, but this is beyond ridiculous now. Eventually, Emery is going to need surgery on his hip. At some point, there has to be a breaking point.
1)emery esche and nitty all suffer from femoroacetabular impingement. its not the training staffs fault at all, even in the case of their rehab. if you want to blame someone, blame glenn hall or tony espo for bringing the butterfly into the game.

2)john leclair really had disk spaced infection or " diskitis" a low grade of staph because chymopapin injection caused it. you wouldnt believe the percentage of " staph" infections related to these injections.

3) coby had spurs removed. not a torn labrum or epipholysis of the fermal head... bone spurs....in june...his quality of play blamed on his condition is suspect.

lindros... anyone that has ever worked for an internist or in an ER knows an xray OR an mri cant even detect an impending( from minimal bleeding) collapsed lung let alone in 1999. or if you think they should have been able to see it, blame nasheville for not finding it or taking precautions.

most of the issues you have with these cases have nothing to do with the strength and conditioning of jim mccrossin. you can look to the LA doctors who did leclairs back, heck even coburns stuff was done by dr byrd in nasheville. im not sure what it is other then frustration that would have you pointing fingers at a glorified nutritionist?

so, just like Parent they'll shut him down for 3 weeks then say he need surgery and say he'll be out 4 weeks instaed of doing the surgery now so he only misses a week of games.

Like people have mentioned, I am sure that this has been said:

Doctor: It's likely that he'll need surgery.

Holmgren: Let's try waiting for a few weeks.

Doctor: Err... that's not how this injury heals. Surgery is the best option.

Holmgren: Let's try waiting a few weeks.
