Wow, another thread about Edwards. I haven't even been here a month and I'm getting sick of these recycled threads. He's a homer, get over it. I'm starting to like him more just for the fact that he gets under people's skin.

My exact thoughts. We were spoiled for years by Fred Cusick. I'll take Jack's knowledge and enthusiasm every day, even during "the dangerous minute." Someday I will spoon down the river while Wideman cocks and bangs in the corner.

When they originally opted to go with him over the other guy, I was pretty put off. I thought Edwards was a fake..he is'nt.

From that perspective though, I can totally see how other team fans would hate on him.
I echo this the most. His passion is real. Hi love for the B's is real. He is an entertainer in the entertainment industry.

Jack has grown on me. He is definitely a nerd who tries a little too hard most of the time. But he also calls goals against the Bruins with energy. 'Ovechkin sticks the dagger in the Bruins heart!' I'll take that over announcers who act like the opponent shot their dog when scoring a goal.

And even though he's comedy relief, he isn't uninformed like 90% of the other color guys out there. He tends to do his research, and is obviously quite knowledgeable of the game. You're not likely to see him refer to a player by the wrong name or get other facts wrong. He's quite obviously very biased towards the Bruins, but at least he's obvious about it. I can't stand the guys that pretend to be impartial but lose their **** every time the home team gets a penalty call.
This, I was listening to the TBay announcer yesterday and he is brutal.. Missed all kinds of things on the ice. Edwards could tone it down a bit, but take him with a grain of salt..

I love watching games with Jack doing the play by play... it adds so much to the game IMO, his Edwardism's are the greatest!! I asked this a while ago in a different thread, but does anyone remember his monologue speech (that he does from time to time) where he roared like a bear at the end?

Because I find him far to distracting. When he is screaming, and generally wrong, it makes me far to mad to watch the game. I don't need some idiot to tell me what is going on. I have 2 eyes.

And I will say I love Brick, but sometimes even scream at the TV at him when he gets rules wrong. The other day when he didn't know the visor instigator rule, I was going nuts.

I love Jack. His sayings and obvious homerism might piss off opposing teams fans, but that's all the more reason to love him. He has a passion for the game and knows his stuff. I'd be crushed if they replaced him with someone else.

At the end of the day though....just remember one thing Bruins fans.

At least we don't have to listen to Rick Jeanneret.

Not sure I'd go that far. He's actually VERY good at play by play. Its a lot more difficult than most people think. Try it sometime....watch a game and in your head call the game, you get confused real quick. He's got high energy, calls an accurate game, hes not perfect but hes good. I understand why other fans hate him...he can sometimes sound like a Bruins fan calling the game but I like that. Have you ever listened to other play by play guys? Not the national guys but local guys like Jack. You'd be surprised how much better he is.

brickley is really really really good though and more then makes the broadcast a joy to listen to. i figure i know hockey pretty damn good myself, but i can usually feel i am learning something as i listen to brickley break down the plays and the game.

i was a fan of the old cusiek/sanderson team... it wasnt nearly as 'smart' as the current edwards/brick theam but they had some real farmilar comfort to them and had been around forwever. None of the broadcasters between then and now really impressed me alot. Dale Arnold was inoffensive though I think so he seemed fine to me if all I wanted to do was watch the game.

Edwards does make me laugh at times... Im sure it would annoy the fans of the other team, but last I checked Edwards was being paid to be the Bruin announcer. He doesnt make me cringe from a brutal lack of hockey knowledge like at least 1/2 of the announcers i get stuck listening to on NHL Center Ice and at least I dont catch him going on for 2 periods at a time about some missed call by the officials like certain canada announcers tend to do an aweful lot.

I wont shed tears if we end up trying someone else... im sure there are guys out there id like better... but the team of Edwards/Brickley is easy for this Bruin fan to listen too and I never really wonder how I manage it. Just being a fan is enough for me to keep the sound up and enjoy whatever I can learn from the game with the passion it gets delivered
With each passing year Brickley makes John Pierson a very proud CC for Boston hockey.

Yeah they have a Play By Play Booth at the Hockey Hall of Fame and I tried it and it was surprisingly hard to keep up with the play without making mistakes.

Oh, man, I BOMBED while trying that ... I kept getting tongue tied and would swear out of frustration over it. I'm not sure a 7 second delay would be enough for me if I was actually on the air!

It also goes to show that he's a hockey fan. If someone scores a sick goal against the Bruins, I'll be disappointed, but in the same breath I'll say "damn, that was a pretty goal." I like to think that Jack is the same way.

Took me a long time to get used to Jack. And he still annoys me on a nightly basis (pretty much whenever someone breaks a twig on the ice, all my roommates and I collectively role our eyes and one of us will say "here comes the composite stick Jack rant!"). But in all honesty, I wouldn't have it any other way.

You want annoying though. I lived with a girl from Buffalo. Try listening to their play by play guy. His voice makes me envy Helen Keller! Maybe one of the few other play by play people as animated as Jack!

I don't understand why other teams fans care so much to insult Edwards every time they get a chance. Fans of other teams listen to him how many times a year? Most of us love him, can't you just give him a break?

I think Jack is great, and very entertaining. I can't tell you how many times we've rewound the DVR because "what the hell did jack just say?"

Also, I really think he's bringing out some of Brick's personality too. I know some people just want a non-specific human to announce whats happening on the ice with no personal stuff involved, or homerism etc, but I really enjoy the personalities. And so I personally like watching the games on NESN 10x more than I like watching them on VS.

How do you listen to Mario Tremblay, Demers etc....I ask you this, why the need to come on here and post a thread that is absolutely irrelevant to the hockey team???
