Excellent post! You are a radical, perhaps, but a scholar too, to be sure.

I doubt it, but far crazier things have happened.

Like if you told this board before the 2005-06 season started that they'd be in game 7 of the SCF a few months later, you'd probably be laughed off the board.

Colorado and Phoenix being in the top 5 in the Western Conference probably would've gotten you laughed off the board too before the fact.

Man, I love how Quinn was able to put together an awesome kid line within 3 draft years. Gotta give credit to him

Wait....Quinn only joined the oilers this year? And Quinn doesnt draft players?

Genius

I see we have reached the point where we eat our own around here.

The poor guy is just trying to be a bit positive and gets blasted. I hope all the here making fun sure aren't the same ones calling out the vets on this team for looking depressed and not going the extra mile. To me they are doing their best to make sure we get that number one pick.

until MPS signs with the oilers with lander(it will be a tag team signing) my money is on him in europe--what happens if the oilers do not win the lotto and draft not first?

OH m BTW

Hall is not the next crosby

here is something of interest--one of the shows from the big smoke listed the first overall draft picks for the past six years and then ranked them as to who was better and then tossed hall in and here is how they ranked them

refresher course on the last 6 years
09--John Tavares
08--Steven Stamkos
07-- Patrick Kane
06--Erik Johnson
05--sid the kid
04-- Alexander Ovechkin

the talking heads had them listed (with hall factored in)
1--Alex O
2--Sid the Kid
3--Kane
4-taveres-
5-Stsmpkos
6-HALL
7--Johnson

I think whomever the oilers draft--fans need to realize that this player may not lead the oilers to the promise land four 3 year or more. Halll is good but he is no Alex O or Sid the Kid--thinking the guy is going to come in and take over top center on this team--is gagging to get hit while their junk is in a box

Are you all done bashing yet? Do you feel better now? Ok, now how about some positive objectivism?

When was the last time the Oilers drafted in the top three overall? How about never. Hall or Seguin aren't the typical mid round prospects that we have become accustomed to. They are the best undrafted prospects in the world. Of course they aren't going to step in and be saviours ala Crosby/Ovechkin, but we should expect Tavares/Duchene type numbers from those two next year.

Secondly, what do Tavares, Parise, Malkin, and P. Bergeron have in common? Anybody? They are the last four forwards to win the World Junior MVP, and now we can add Eberle to that list. There is no question that Eberle is an elite prospect. He has proven his abilities at every level and next year will be his his coming out party in the NHL.

Lastly we have MPS. He has shown flashes of brilliance, but I have no objective reason to believe that he will be a regular contributer to the Oilers next year, so there really is no reason to bring him up in this discussion.

So then, what does that leave the Oilers with? Eberle and Hall/Seguin, essentially two of the best prospects in hockey. Now imagine a line of Hall - Gagner - Eberle. Sure they are young, sure they will get burned, sure there will be growing pains, but at least they have elite potential. Finally there is an objective reason for optimism. Cheers.

I swear to god JTS, you've completely gone a little nuts.

First with the "Oilers will pick between 6-10 this year", because no way in hell they'll win that much.

Secondly, I don't think a single person here said Hall will be even close to Sid or Ovvy. People "Think" he could be the best 1st overall since Crosby, but thats because he has an awesome skill-set. Still no one is saying its a sure thing.

Not only that, but really, take over the 1st line C on the team? Who has he really got to beat? Horcoff(if he doesn't improve)? Gagner? Cogliano?

If he's better than all of them, then he deserves to come in and take over the 1st line C job(though I believe he'll play LW in the NHL).
