as per the Twitter feed of TSN's Darren Dreger.

Not surprised.

We don't need him for the playoffs, he's eating up cap space we need, and he's not even a very good fighter anymore.

I wonder if we'll see McLaren up now, or they'll just stick with Murray+Clowe to get the job done.

I'm not supriesed either - we have other players that can fill his role and may have some offensive upside. Best of luck to Shelley in NYR.

And Staubitz on the current roster too. He's a middleweight, but he's willing.

Seems really odd though. Why would the Rangers give up a pick for Shelley? Is something else in the works?

Good luck Shelley, despite the general negativity towards him he was always a decent role player for the Sharks and seemed to be a great locker room presence.

Any guesses on what round the pick is? I'm guessing a 5th although maybe DW suprises and gets a 2nd or 3rd.

Well, I guess Staubitz is our enforcer.

Anything over a 7th (what DW traded to get Shelley) is a steal. A 7th would even be a wash.

Damn. Some locker room leadership out the door. He's been pretty solid even when not throwing punches, too, but this is probably better in the long run with Staubitz stepping up his play lately. Great guy, though, rough to see him go.

Or make a deal to bring in Stortini and Staios. Staios for even more blueline depth and Stortini an enforcer who can score here and there.

Well I think we all know how terrible Sather is with picks, hopefully DW got something decent aka a 5th or even a 6th.

I think the point is that the need for enforcers drops the closer we get to the playoffs. And in our case, we can use the cap relief. But this follows Brashers and May. Further, we have McLaren in the AHL if we need him.

I've believed for some time that we would bring back up McGinn who plays LW, and that makes Jody expendable down the stretch.

Sounds like a salary dump, in so many ways.

Not that Shelley isn't a great guy (in the locker room), but Staubitz and McLaren can do his (on the ice) job.

I'll be more concerned with how this effects the room than the on ice impact.

does this mean that there is cap space to make another trade, or are we using that space to call up mcginn for the rest of the season or something?
