I like it. We have a player who isn't afraid to go with anyone, and has the ability to win most fights he is in. He isn't the terrifying heavy he used to be, but he still has a punchers chance in every fight. I doubt anyone want to run Hank or punch Gabby in the mouth now.

NYR 6th round picks: Sven Helfenstein (2000), Marek Zidlicky (01), Jake Taylor and Kim Hirschovits (02), Ivan Dornic, Phillip Furrer and Chris Holt (03), Jordan Foote (04), Greg Beller (05), Eric Hunter (06)

So you see... save the odd lucky pick (Lundqvist), Rangers are totally useless in the later rounds...

WELCOME ABOARD JODY!!!!!!!!!
Marek Zidlicky is a good player...of course we don't know that because Sather gave him away for Mike Dunham.

I like the move...it helps protect the kids and Gabby for the rest of season

Maybe a precursor to trading Prospal and Jokinen for picks?

Callahan-Christensen-Gaborik
Avery-Dubinsky-Lisin
Drury-Anisimov-Prust
Voros-Boyle-Shelley

I see it as a guy that will protect our players for the rest of the year, especially with the Flyers left 3 times, and the Leafs with Colton left twice. I like Prust, but I don't want to see him taking on these heavyweights.

I don't really care about the draft pick, but I just don't really see the point of the trade. I suppose Shelley is more of a heavyweight, but I feel like in today's game, you really only need one guy who can fight consistently, heavyweight or not.

We also have a huge logjam at the forward position.

For a 5th or 6th in a supposedly bad draft? A move that likely signals the end of Brashear being here? Not really seeing a big problem.

I won't speak for others, but I want team toughness in the sense that most of the 20 guys out there are willing to grind and stick up for each other. It wasn't one forward with a big physical edge that has been missing, but 10+ skaters who have a little of it. Outside of Staal and one fight from Wade Redden there hasn't been a single defenseman who has been willing to put a forward on his ass consistently.

This guy gets what, 5-7 minutes per game icetime? He'll fight some goon that gets about the same amount of time.

That does not help team toughness.

Interesting move.... I mean Jody can bust up faces, but wtf

Does make the team tougher....

I'm thinking despite all the yabbering that everyones a professional Brashear wasn't welcomed in the locker room after all. Certainly didnt help him that he can't fight anymore. The last guy he beat up is still Blair Betts

Maybe this signals Voros in the BLOCKBUSTER PACKAGE coming at midnite

Prust + Voros + Shelly > Brashear + Voros

It is a step forward

Stop making sense. Irrational pessimism is the main course on today's menu and we will have none of this logical discourse ruining this whinefest.

I could honestly care less which of their guys who gets 4 shifts per night is fighting with our guy who gets 5 shifts per night.

The protection of players has lot more to do with Girardi or Redden turning their back on someone smashing Lundqvist or Gaborik than it does which pugalist is better than another.

One has nothing to do with the other IMO.

But teams can still call up and demote players to the minors etc until early next week, at which time it's a total freeze I believe.

This means maybe Shelley will sit in the box instead of Prust, who can hit people more.

No reason to be alarmed. It's a 6th round pick, most of them never even play a game. The other thing is, if they do send some vets off for futures, they need someone around to make sure the young kids don't get slaughtered. Besides, Torts plays his fourth line like 4 minutes a game. How bad can this possibly be? It's better than watching Lisin watch from the bench all night.

Except that Brashear will still be on the books next year unless we can trade him or he agrees to terminate his contract.

So if we re-sign Shelley, we may just end up paying ~2 mil between the 2 of them.

We lose a 6th round pick on a random trade and everyone is calling for his head... What is wrong with people on these boards?

I checked the board after it was announced that it was for a 6th. But I still read the whole thread from the beginning just to see people go to the ledge and then turn around. Ridiculous.

Only upside here. UFA in the summer. Brashear gone. Good trade.

This trade keeps Dolan happy too. Don't forget he is the guy who gave Renney the edict that Orr play every night. Good character guy. I like the deal.
