This was a good move. We finally have a legitimate heavyweight to keep teams in line. Shelly/Prust/Avery is a huge upgreade over Brashear/Voros/Avery. Now that the protection issue is taken care of I'd still like to be sellers.

The Carcillos of this world will think twice before slapping Gabby around.

If you don't think this was needed, well maybe you just enjoy watching Hank and Gabby get slapped around.

THANK YOU!!!

This is what I've been saying.

If it were Voros/Brash for Shelley then I'm fine. But it's all 3 (right now)

No it's in response to getting slapped around like a bunch of girls by any team with toughness. Brashear was a mistake, Shelly can throw down.

But I see you're doing a bang up job of continuing to contribute nothing to the conversation. Good on you.

See, unlike Jokinen, Shelley isn't a top six player. He's hardly a player at all. He's a goon. Intelligence doesn't play much of a role there. When your the center of the team's second line, a lack of hockey IQ can really be a problem. That's probably why Olli Jokinen has been traded 5 times and was acquired for a third liner with deep struggles and a waste of space with a horrible contract.

Shouldn't you be promoting your irrational hatred of Zherdev somewhere right about now?

Shelly will most likely re-sign for half of what brashear got.
Lets hope Sather realizes that.

Aquiring shelley means that our lovely blueshirts now have a set of testicles.

Anymore questions?

He doesnt need to be. You just point your finger at other teams goon or a ********* and tell Shelley to go and punch his ****ing lights out. When he is in the lineup he'll play 5 minutes tops anyways so no big deal.

This is a decent move based on the sole fact that he replaces useless Brashear as our heavyweight. He removes the pressure from Prust having to fight a guy like Peters who he most likely loses to everytime.

This becomes an awesome move contingent on the extermination of Brashear's contract from our cap. We upgrade that role and save 700K this year. We remove 1.4 million from next years cap.

What's not to like? The Garden will wake up during his first fight.

Doesn't the 1.4 million count against next year's cap? It was an over-35 contract.

Some people here apparently enjoy their team being embarrassed and manhandled.

I am not arguing for or against getting Shelley, the fact is that it's over and I am trying to comprehend why there is this huge conversation about it. He is ONLY a rental, or even if he is signed next year it isn't that big of a deal.

I guess I'm just mad that we didn't get better short term... or long term.

The guy may be tough... but he isn't gonna help put the puck in the net... he won't develop into that guy... and he won't help keep the puck outta our net or clear a crease.

If Gabby and Lundy are safer... great. But i wanted to get better (long term preferably)

That's why it's not yet an awesome move because this part seems like a dream. I think if Brashear refuses to go to HFD and breaks the contract we are off the hook. As are we if we can trade him.

Small details!

Ahh Nik Zherdev. The man who is the poster boy for "no hockey smarts". I do not mind this trade at all. Shelley just recentley owned Orr.

If it makes every guy in the dressing room play about 10 lbs tougher it will be a good trade . One guy cannot fight all the battles...team toughness is the KEY ! I think it will help out guys like Callahan, Dubie, & Avery step it up a bit more in the physical department now that they know they will have some heavyweight back up . It also should help out the pure talent guys like Gabbie and Vinny .

For a 6th round pick I am buying in and I also think Shelly will be awesome over the last part of the season because he will also be playing for another contract next year !

Yeah, Jody Shelley has a reputation as a TOUGH player. But he also has a reputation for his off-ice work ethic, being a respected lockerroom leader, and awesome human being.
