What exacly should I expect from Cullen. Apperently he's a great Penalty killer, decent faceoffs?
Help me out 'Cane fans
Here's the scoop on Cullen.
He can play wing (in fact, he did this in 06 when the Canes picked up Doug Weight), but is better suited to Center. He is very responsible defensively, is decent at faceoffs, and is a good (but not great) penalty killer. He has good speed, good vision, good moves/puck skills, and can play the point on the power play (and even on the half wall if needed).
His weaknesses (IMO) are 1) he isn't very strong so although he does alright down low because of his shiftyness, he can get outmuscled by bigger, stronger players. This is sometimes evident in the defensive zone when trying to clear the puck. 2) He doesn't have great finishing skills ON A CONSISTENT BASIS. If he was more consistent in this area, he'd be a much more productive player.
NET: He is a very versatile player that can play a lot of roles, has good playoff experience, should be good in the locker-room and should be able to gel with anyone.
He's not great at any one thing, but fairly good at a lot of things.
He was money in its first year but with only one real move (leg lift deke) he's not nearly as effective.
Another thing, and it could just be an aberration though it is about the same last year, is that he is outstanding on PP draws while closer to average at ES or SH. On the PP he wins close to 60%, which in elite territory.
