If Foppa plays well in OLY and wants to come to Philly, any takers?

Next season only, but ONLY if he makes it though the whole season healthy, and he would probably be suited to be a winger on this team.

Yep, pretty much. However, I'd wager he goes to Colorado next year given their resurgence.

I'll say this one more time. He won't be playing on a regular basis in the NHL next season and he probably won't even make it through the Olympics. Have fun with your thread guys...

I could never say no to Peter Forsberg. If you get the chance, you make the moves to make it work.

It's probably why he sat out this year, the Avalanche weren't supposed to be even close to where they are this year. And it wouldn't surprise me to see another hard fall next year. You can't overacheive that much without a thud at some point.

Why would he have to go through waivers? Is he still property of Colorado?

That's how it works with players in other leagues.

Hummm, I could have sworn I've seen players outside the NHL randomly sign with a team of their choosing. Didn't Brunnstrum do that with Dallas?

Brunnstrom signed between season, iirc. Mid-season, players have to go through waivers if they've played overseas during that season.

During the offseason...this would be for this year. If he signs over the summer, he's a free agent and doesn't go through waivers.

How does it work exactly? If he WERE to try to play this year, does he sign a deal and THEN go through waivers? If so, and he is claimed, do they assume the contract he just signed? Or does he have to go through waivers before attempting to sign anything. So someone would essentially be claiming his rights?

That I'm not entirely sure about...

It's possible that you can sign a guy, not try to play him that year, and then he's on your roster the next season?

My CBA knowledge is entirely "need to know." When something comes up, I go looking for info on it. Haven't had to read up on this scenario, other than knowing waivers are involved.

I think it's upon his signing of a contract. Ottawa signed Randy Robitaille after he left Europe in the middle of the season and had to pass through. Additionally, Wade Dubielewicz last year signed a contract with the Islanders mid-way through the season after playing in Russia, but he failed to clear waivers.

There was talk about this with Jagr last year.

He'd have to be signed THEN clear waivers if I remember correctly. (played out with Dubielewicz)

The consensus was Jagr, and in this case Foppa, would never clear waivers. Teams would either want him or **** block your team from getting him as strategy.

ie the Islanders picking up Jagr knowing he would just stay in Europe, thus preventing the Rangers and Jagr from re-uniting for the playoffs.

Euro players must clear this process to play in the NHL and they must do so before a certain date to be eligible for the playoffs.

This is all geared towards keeping teams from buying Euro ringers for the playoffs.

That makes sense...but could you sign a player and have no intention of him playing that season without going through waivers?

It'll be interesting to see how he looks in the tourney. He was still the best passer and all around puck control guy in the league his last year here. Didn't see much of him in his Lanche comeback but his numbers were good when he played. Seems like he's in and out of the lineup a lot for Modo and his scoring is off this year.

Since he played for Modo, if Forsberg were to sign with a NHL team for this year, he'd have to clear waivers before being able to play. No way he clears if he shows he can still skate and shoot at the Olympics.

As many have noted, it'd be impossible because he would never clear waivers...but I would welcome him with open arms for a cheap contract that we could clear by dropping someone to the minors. He would be a wonderful mentor to Roo.

As far as I'm concerned... Thank you for your time here Forsberg. It was great while it lasted. Now stay the **** out of Philly.

I know I'll probably get **** for talking badly about him, I don't really care. And don't get me wrong I loved having him here but I'm over it now... how about Flyers fans everywhere do the same, eh?
The drama is media driven so I don't know why you would get all upset at Forsberg for that.

Look at his stats last year, the guy is not done. Plus at this point his foot is the only thing still giving him trouble.

Anyone know anything about him? Well over a point per game playing for Modo as a 22 year old.
