Step 1-Placing the player on waivers
Step 2-Assigning the player to the AHL
Step 3-Do the Rangers and Brashear have an agreement worked out where he doesn't report and they terminate the contract OR Brashear refuses the assignment and breaches the contract or Brashear reports and is absolutely miserable.
First two steps were completed.
I think they either have an agreement or he won't report. Another $1.4 million in cap savings for next season! lol
If that does happen, the Rangers will have approx $12 million in cap space for next season if the salary cap remains where it is this season.

is there a chance Brashear doesnt go down, breaches his contract and then some how the Donald gets a random 1.4 million dollar deposit in his bank account
The Rangers' ignoble experiment with Donald Brashear seems to be at an end.
Assistant general manager Jim Schoenfeld told reporters before last night's opening faceoff that the unhappy, seldom-used and completely-ineffective 38-year-old winger would be assigned to the AHL Wolf Pack today after having cleared waivers at noon yesterday.
"Donald made it clear he wanted a change of scenery," Schoenfeld said of Brashear, who earlier in the week requested a trade. "I can understand Donald's frustration . . . [but] he's not a fit for our team at this time."
New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that forward Donald Brashear has been assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL).

11.It is mutually agreed that the Club shall have the right to Assign or to Loan this SPC, and the Player agrees to accept and be bound by such Assignment or Loan, and will faithfully perform and carry out this SPC with the same purpose and effect as if it had been entered into by
the Player and such other club.
It is further mutually agreed that in the event that this SPC is Assigned, or the Player's
services are Loaned, to another club, the club shall by notice in writing delivered personally to
the Player or by mail to the address set out below his signature hereto advise the Player of the
name and address of the club to which he has been Assigned or Loaned, and specify the time and
place of reporting. If the Player fails to report to such other club, he may be suspended by such
other club and no Paragraph 1 Salary shall be payable to him during the period of such
suspension.
The player is obligated to accept the assignment.

14. The Club may also terminate this SPC upon written notice to the Player (but only after obtaining Waivers from all other Clubs) if the Player shall at anytime:
(a) fail, refuse, or neglect to obey the Club's rules governing training and conduct of
Players, if such failure, refusal or neglect should constitute a material breach of this SPC.
(b) fail, refuse or neglect to render his services hereunder or in any other manner
materially breach this SPC.
If he doesn't accept the assignment, the contract is breached and the club can terminate it making the player a free agent.
So basically what we need to do is move the Wolfpack to Alaska. Then assign Redden and Rozsival to them and watch them breach that contract so fast Sather won't know what to do with himself.

Forget Alaska...
I propose that Brashear, Redden, and Rozsival all be part of the starting lineup of your 2010-2011 Baghdad Wolfpack.
EDIT: Plus, Bettman can use our relocation of the Pack to Iraq as evidence that hockey in the desert (Phoenix) works!
