Andrei Kostitsyn Not Playing In Olympics

Is this injury more serious then we expected? Looks like he has been taken off the roster for Team Belarus. Hopefully this just means he needs the extra two weeks to be close to 100% for the Habs.

From Twitter:
habsinsideout1

"RT @touteparpillee: Belarus has removed #Habs A. Kostitsyn from its roster due to knee injury. (via @GagnonFrancois)"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT:

Confirmed by rds:

According to rds, Andrei will not play during the Olympics; he did not receive the green light. If I interpret the article correctly, according to the IHF regulation, today’s 23 men rosters are “final” and, no matter what happens, can’t be modified. Andrei’s name is not on the final Belarusian roster.

(Thanks Kjell Dahlin!)

Maybe he will play later in the tournament?
Or is he now “ineligible”?

Ugh-oh. Hopefully, this is just for precautionary reasons. Or else we're screwed.

I'm not sure really, I can't read French . But here is another source, if you can translate:

"La Biélorussie vient de rayer le nom d'Andrei Kostitsyn de sa formation en raison de sa blessure au genou."

Can't wait for the OLympics to be over to see Cammy, AK and Pouliot come back into the lineup, with Markov and Subban feeding them pucks.

Please trade Mara's arse.

It roughly says: "Belarus has scratched off the name of Andrei Kostitsyn, because of his knee injury".

Are they able to add a healthy player to the roster at this stage for an injured player? Might be they just want an additional healthy player available to them if so. Hopefully he hasn't had any setbacks.

No he is now ineligible for the tournament.

Since official rosters had to be handed in at 3 PM today, I'm going to assume that Kostitsyn was left off the roster in favor of a healthy Belarussian, but I'm not sure.

I think so. I recall reading somewhere that there is a deadline to fix the final Olympic Rosters. So, this is most like for precautionary reasons

it would of been good for him if he was ready to go... and good for the habs too becaues he's a slow starter when rested for a long period of time... the olympics could of warmed-him up for us

Yep that appears to be the case. Keep forgetting about the time difference.

Great, now we'll have a healthy and pretty pissed AK when he comes back. Here's to hoping this *improves* his game.

It doesn't really matter. For the most part, we're Canadian fans. On the very off-chance that Belarus beats us (which isn't going to happen, lol), Kostitsyn would have to be part of the team.

Lol, imagine that, though. Belarus beating us. I would actually shoot myself in the head lol/
