with womens rules, no, not a chance.
with men's rules, maybe, if they were physical enough. The womens goaltenders would still be a hell of a lot better.

I made my comments based on an exhibition game I saw Team Canada play vs an average Bantam AAA team. That Bantam team was slightly below .500 in their league (Southern Alberta Bantam AAA Hockey League). They lost to Canada 5-4. Their level is the equivalent of Bantam AAA.

This is a touchy subject that I don't want to get into trouble for if my remarks seem sexist. That is not my intention at all.
There are Major Midget AAA teams that lost to the Women's Olympic team this winter. In fact there were "Good" Major Midget AAA teams that lost to the women.

Here are the Major Midget AAA teams (15-17 yr. olds) that they beat this winter:

Calgary Royals - 3 times
Edmonton Maple Leaf Athletic Club - once
Edmonton Canadian Athletic Club - once
St. Albert - once
Lethbridge - once
Calgary North Stars - twice
UFA - twice
Leduc - once
Edmonton South Side Athletic Club - once
Calgary Flames - twice
Edmonton Knight Of Columbus - once
Grande Prairie - once
Calgary Buffalos - once
Medicine Hat - once
Red Deer - once

They played the Midget AAA teams in exhibition games as well as one game against each team in the AMHL that counted in the Midget AAA league standings. So 2 points was up for grabs for the Midget AAA teams.

They also beat the Calgary Canucks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League back in December.

This is meant as a joke right? A CHL team would get absolutely wrecked by an SEL or KHL team, and any team in the CHL could beat the women's national team by at least double digits.

under mens rules, maybe.
under women's rules, the women's national team has actually beaten numerous CIS teams in training. Didnt they play an exhibition against some CHL kids (I seem to remember it involving brayden schenn for some reason) a year or two ago?

I don't think this is true. I know when they play the midget teams here in Alberta (15-17), they play women's rules. I know this because Phaneuf's little brother hit Wickenheiser and everyone flipped out about it.

The women's team would not beat any CHL team, and certainly no pro teams, even with women's rules.

How stupid... Grown Women best at their sport against 15 and 16 year old boys playing midget? Your realize that beating a midget team is not an accomplishment. Women may develop fast, but men don't... the ones that do are playing Junior by 16.... On every midget team you might have what 1 good player? The fact midget teams are beating them is far more impressive. even kids on Junior teams have not reached their potential. Guys don't peak till well into their 20's. Don't know why people keep bringing this up. Its a fact of life on average men are bigger, stronger, faster... The only thing thats equal in life on average is intelligence. Testosterone is science, gives us a massive edge, thats fact... lets end the discussion... The comparison of a Womens team beating a midget team is like NHL team beating a Junior team... nobody is impressed!

Doubt it. I know Kelowna Rockets beat the Swedish women 4-1, and they are in the WHL right?

If your spelling and grammar is any measure of the average male then I hope for the sake of all women that they don't have that same level of intelligence. Nobody is trying to show off or make anyone look bad, I have no idea where your bitterness is coming from.

The fact is that no one is meant to be "impressed", it just seems that on average, Boys Midget AAA teams seem to be decent competition for Women's national programs. As others have said, the Canadian National Team played a number of exhibition (and regular season) games against Alberta Midget AAA teams, and the competition level was in the ballpark at least, although they did seem to win more than they lost.

It's all pure speculation, but I'd say that with women's rules, on a good day, and with a hot goaltender, Team Canada could perhaps take a single game from a CHL or CIS team. However, the corollary also holds true, and that an average High School team could, in any given game, beat the National Women's Team.

If they are any good they could, have you seen how hard women shoot the puck?
As for beating a boys teams, I somehow doubt boys would be as aggressive vs a girls team.

High school hockey is not even comparable to AAA midget Canadian hockey. AAA midget players are the top players across the country that age and many then go on to the CHL.

Almost no chance that a high school team could beat the Canadian womens team. likely the American womens team either for that matter.

All evidence points to yes. I know they played Bantam teams and have had trouble so in Midget they would probably be over matched.

Except that the USA team already lost to a (not even that great) Minnesota high school team.

But hey, you obviously have thought this through and have come to an amazing conclusion so just go with it...

WOULD a MN HS team beat the Canadian Women? I don't know, there's a limitless amount of circumstances that are impossible to predict.

COULD a MN HS team beat the Canadian Women? Absolutely.

A few years ago Warroad, MN Boys Highschool team defeated the US Women's National team 2-1. Warroad is typically ranked one of the better "A" teams in the state of Minnesota. Class "A" teams are typically smaller schools or less talented schools than "AA". That having been said, the top "AA" schools would handle the US Women's National team fairly easily in my opinion.
Thank you for that!

I know, basically as a fact, that they would loose to a very good team with 16 y/o.

I've seen the Swedish women national team in Soccer play against a very avg 16 y/o boy soccer team -- and they lost like 9-1.

I've my self played against a girl who played on the Swedish national team in Turin. She was easily on par with the boys up untill 14. Without any doubt better then me at least. But, she fell back tremendously when we entered the age of 15-16.

Win.

I mean, this isn't (shouldn't be) about taking sides. What interests people in hockey games is skill, talent, speed, dangling...different kinds of stuff. Why NHL is more respected and popular than Finland's 3rd tier? The level of play, perhaps?

Many times we hear in media that women's hockey is not getting enough respect. Well, I think it's getting as much as it deserves. You still very often get flamed if you state that I want to see good games so I watch women's hockey if the game interests me. Same goes for junior boys. It's not about the gender. Shouldn't Finland's junior C boys teams get as much attention as women's games because the level of play is higher? You tell me.

For the (ridiculous) quoted part, Haley Wickenheiser career stats: http://www.eurohockey.net/players/sh...i?serial=38084
(HC Salamat is a Finnish MEN's hockey team. Suomi-sarja=3rd tier/unprofessional, Mestis=2nd tier/semi-professional)

Here's women's Olympic Team Finland's ("Suomi NMJ") results from this season against boys C junior teams (14-15yo).
http://www.junnut.com/T1/lue.php?ID=132 (scroll down the page)

For what it's worth...gives you some picture. Canada's W Team would play pretty evenly against Finnish C junior teams, I think.
