I'm getting tired of him and hearing about how a new system is going to make him such a better player than he was with Lemaire. Hey, when you have lead in your feet you are going to play like you have lead in your feet NO MATTER WHAT SYSTEM you play in !!!!

I feel that Sheppard has looked good the last two games. He was good on the forecheck, strong on the boards and made some plays.

He is still very young but I am still optimistic. He should see a power skater during the Summer, haha...but based on what Richards has said, he is working really hard in practice which is something I don't know could always be said with him and Lemaire.

Watching his skating last night, it was horrible. He's got very poor technique and that's a big reason why he's made no impact so far this year. He really needs to see a power skating specialist.

And now he's a healthy scratch?

Pure example of a player being rushed to the NHL.

Two games in a row now. Is this a wake up call or have they given up on him? With Chipchurra fetching a 4th this week, do you think Minny could land a 2nd or 3rd for him if they have given up on him?

Won't land a 2nd or 3rd if he's not playing. I don't think they've given up on him. Read a comment that they are trying to figure out how to get him going. Team is playing pretty decently right now so they don't want to mess with that much.

Sheppard was out with a tweaked back for the second game, first game he was a healthy scratch, came back and scored his first NHL goal since last March.

He looks a lot better on the wing, like an NHL'er, not top six material but serviceable.

From the Oilers perspective the the pick you used on Sheppard(my math has him as the pick) when you traded us Roloson was worth it--

Sheppard was the 9th pick of the 2006 draft. Oiler's 1st rounder that year would have been at the end of the draft since they were the cup finalist.

I believe what happened to that Oiler's 1st rounder was that the Wild traded it to the LA Kings, along with Patrick O'Sullivan to pick up Demitra at the draft.

I haven't given up on him, but I'm not optimistic about him becoming the player we hoped he would be when we drafted him. I feel our former GM rushed him into service. I actually blame Lemaire more. Ironic since JL was supposed to be this teaching guru, and he just seemed to alienate Shep with JL calling him out to the press after a bad game. I don't have a problem with a coach calling out a veteran, but not, at the time, a 19 year old boy playing amongst men. Although I sense Shep may have brought some of that on himself. Who knows. We're all outsiders looking in. I still hope he can turn it around, but I got a feeling when he does it won't be in Minnesota. I just hope we can get a return like we did for Benoit Pouliot if it does come down to that.

I want O'Sullivan back. Sadly, James's stock has dropped so dramatically that he its pretty much a done deal he'll be gone after this season.

I think it may be before that even.

This team is going to have some roster/waiver issues very soon. They might be able to hold off until the deadline when they actually move a few significant players, but who knows. Barring more injuries popping up, decisions are going to need to be made. And I'm not so sure they're willing to risk losing a player like Robbie Earl by passing him back down through waivers over someone like Sheppard who hasn't done much of anything.

I like Earl. When I've seen him play he has shown speed, a good shot, and a willingness to go into the corners and throw his weight around. He also seems to have an energy that is contagious, sort of an intangible that coaches like. You could almost call him Clutterbuck Lite. I think with the right coaching and if Richards continues to put him in situations where he can succeed, he could develop into another one of our 3rd+ liners.

Regarding Sheppard, I think his goose is cooked. I don't know if he's worth a 2nd like somebody posted above but I think he could be thrown into a deal with a guy like Nolan to get us a better return on whatever the other side of the deal is/was.

Are there any young, formerly promising centers out there that Sheppard could be traded for like the Pouliot/Latendresse deal?

I'd like to see a deal to send shep for someone like Tom Wandell from Dallas.

I'd love to see something like:

Wandell and Brunnstrom

for

Harding and Sheppard

That would be a nice deal and I think it's pretty fair as far as value and need are concerned.

Sheppard's become one of those classic "needs a change of scenery" guys.

Obviously if a hockey player hasn't become a star by the time he's 21 years old he doesn't have a chance of ever making it.

The best strategy for the Wild would be to dump him for nothing so we can make room for all of our promising young prospects who are ready to crack the lineup.

Funny how people were saying the exact same things about Pouliot a couple months ago. Keeping him around didn't turn out so bad for us, did it?

Sheppard has definitely struggled but he's also showed flashes of being a solid player, no matter how few and far between those flashes may be. Take a look at our prospect pool. We don't have the luxury of throwing away 21 year old first-round draft picks because they aren't developing the way we expected them to.

Sheppard

I had high hopes for Sheppard, but Lemaire's system ruined him, I say trade him.

Actually it was Doug Risebrough rushing him to the NHL that has pretty much ruined any chance of him turning into anything with the Wild. He was so mad at Pouliot after he "dogged" it in Houston for 2/3rds a year after he rewarded him with 3 NHL games with meaningless amounts of ice time, so he wasn't going to let him on the team. Dominic Moore was injured going into the year, so many people(including myself) were hoping that Moore would replace him after a 9 game trial. Then Walz retired and Koivu got lumberjacked. By the time Leipold got rid of DR he'd already let Jimmy play enough to require waivers.

Hopefully we can still salvage Colton Gillies after the huge step back he took in being forced onto the Wild last season by DR. Sheppard, if we can't deal him for anything might as well put him on waivers. He won't develop in the pressbox, which is where he is most nights.
