Jeff Carter to Calgary

Hey guys, Flames fan here

Its been talked about here quite a bit of late that some top end talent is needed to assist with Iginla, there's a list of guys out there I'd be interested in from any number of teams but I wanted to get a Flyers fan/followers opinion on what you think it would take from the Flames to send a guy like Jeff Carter to Calgary.

This isn't a trade proposal or rumour thread, just curious to see what Flyers fans think he's worth if he was ever available?

Thanks!

I wouldn't trade him at all. Even when his contract is up he is a RFA.

Not going anywhere anytime soon. And Calgary doesn't suit me as a team that would have anything worth trading Carter for in the first place. Sorry.

This team really isn't in a position to trade many of our players right now, especially Carter.

Thanks for the insight! I can definitely appreciate the value of a player you want to keep on your team, nice to see that Carter has that kind of value to your fan base!

Couple of things...

1) Flyers aren't trading Carter anytime soon.

2) If you're looking for players to compliment Iginla, Jeff Carter is the last player you would choose. He's a shooter, not a playmaker.

Trade proposals should not be allowed in forums except the Trade Rumors one.

Iginla needs a true, first line center...which Giroux isn't either. Been a problem in Calgary forever.

And to be brutally frank, Calgary is a cautionary tale for why you build down the middle, not on the wing.

giroux/iggy is a sick combo, no matter how young giroux is...hes got incredible vision, im sure the two would be a more than capable duo.

Has nothing to do with his age...Giroux is not a front line center, and due to his size almost certainly never will be.

If your first line center is 180 lbs dripping wet, you are going to have a hard time winning anything meaningful. It's too much of a matchup problem in this league.

Lavy didn't trust Giroux to be the 3rd line center against Pittsburgh a couple weeks ago...

So, if you're trading for Iginla's center, you shouldn't be trading for someone like Giroux...unless you're going to put him on the other wing. Which, seriously, is something we're going to have to figure out how to do next year. If you want to maximize Giroux, it's at RW in the top 6, not C.

im sick of giroux on the 3rd line i think we need to compact our talent into 2 lines, cut this 3 line BS

giroux JVR carter richards briere gagne hartnell

7 good guys, but we need 6 for two lines, not 7 for three.

IMO we should trade 1 (hartnell, gags, briere) for a good dman and a 3rd line grinder, but i think i've made that point...

gags richie carter
JVR briere giroux (flip briere and giroux?)

thing with giroux/briere is that they are both competant at wing and center and are both pretty small, i'd take giroux up the middle over briere though.

Richards and Carter are our centers...and neither should be moved from that in our top 6 given our current roster.

given the current roster, but if we really want our bang for our buck with carter we will at least TRY him with richards for more than 2 weeks.

No, because then we're fielding a peewee squad down the middle.

Crunch time, down by a goal shift? Absolutely. Our top two lines need to be centered by Richards and Carter. They are our best defensive and offensive options.

First thing I thought of when i saw the no. no. no. replies.

A month or two ago Carter was Randy Jones on these boards, now he is untouchable.

He has always been, for the most part, untouchable to me, but whatever.

Argh, i'm not being funny, but what the hell do we need another bottom 6 player for. Our bottom six has been the best it's been for well over 5-6 years if not more. Why do we need another good D man? When parent is fit we have your wish anyhow.

Going into the playoffs with

Hartnell - Carter - Briere
Gagne - Richards - Carcillo
JVR - Giroux - Asham
Lappy - Betts - Powe.

Thats a team that can win the stanley cup. Regardless of who else you want in there. When that team is healthy it can win anything.

Left wing and Center look great, but we are definitely missing something on the Right. I actually prefer Hartnell over there, but we are still lacking on RW. I'd like a nice vet fill in at the deadline, but I'm not sure how possible this will be...

Forsberg, five years ago would have been SICK on RW with JVR and Giroux.

We definitely don't look very competitive without Carter. It just goes to show how many people seriously were ready to give up on the season at one point. I'll admit I came close to making the "ok, i agree, it's possible we might not make the playoffs" post once, maybe twice. Glad I never did because now it sounds as ridiculous as my gut feeling said it was.
