Yes, exactly. If the point is that Redden and Rozsival are paid too much and that's hurting the team, *****ing about Heikkinen maybe going back overseas is an extremely weak way to do it.

Poor, sloppy writing, but what else is new with Larry Brooks

It's hard to blame the guy though. It's DIFFICULT to find new ways to slam the Rangers. Sather has been screwing the same things up for years and years.

I agree that Larry Brooks is a garbage writer and that he's being way too dramatic over Heikkinen...

but the concept of losing Heikkinen because we can't provide him with an opportunity due to two craptastic contracts is not something to ignore.

Why is this article bad? Heikkinen looks like a solid hockey player. I'd rather have him than Redden, and he only costs a fraction of the price. He's not afraid to shoot the puck, and he isn't afraid to bring some physicality. Looks NHL-caliber to me.

Just another reason to be upset about Sather's awful, awful decisions.

Unless Ilkka Heikinen plays on Broadway after the Olympic break, dont expect him back with the organization next season.

I think Im not going to get a one-way contract, not if I play the whole year in the AHL, a discouraged Heikkinen, 25, told Newsday yesterday after practice in Hartford. Im not going to play a second year here. Ill go back to Europe or maybe Russia.

Heikkinen, who was signed on May 9 for $875,000 and will be a restricted free agent, has seven goals and 21 assists---12 on the power play---for the Pack. Its been a tough couple weeks for me and the team (2-8-2 in the last 12). I think weve hit a wall.

Too bad. We have an abundance of young defenseman, and with the ugly veteran contracts on the roster, he didn't stand much of a chance. I think I could be a good player though.

Oh no. A bottom pairing d-man is leaving.

Boo hoo.

Much more upset about Baranka leaving than this guy.

Exactly. Heikkinen is a decent defenseman who could possibly be a 5/6 in the NHL on the right team. That's all.

Sather should trade him to the team that will offer him a NHL contract.

Why would a team give up and asset for a guy they can sign for free in the summer? Heikkinen's not going to help a team's playoff push this season, there's no reason to rush.

I liked his game, I hope he gets some games after the break. If he doesn't return, no biggie.

2 points that I'll preface with a disclaimer that I haven't followed the 'Pack at all this season.

- Heikkinen appeared to be a very capable d-man in his brief stint here. Certainly more competent without the puck than Gilroy.

- the quotes I've read today coming out of Hartford border on disturbing. Sounds like everyone is just dying to get the hell outta there and really could not care less about anything else.

This.

The quote from Parenteau, although he didn't specifically state it, he wants out. A legitimate shot in the NHL, and he feels the Rangers didn't give him one.

Looking at Heikkinen's quote, it seems like he just doesn't care, like Melrose_Jr. said. He wants out.

i can't blame him, but i also can't blame the rangers for the way they handled him either

he could end up being a good 3rd liner and 2nd PP guy somewhere, unfortunately this team has an ****_ton of 3rd line players...hope it works out for him if he plays somewhere else

Yeah, dump Rozsival Our best defensemen as of late. Why not, just dump him.

As for Heikennen. I think he's going to turn out better than Saugenetti, Potter, and Sauer. Just not Mcdonagh.

I can see him turning out better than Potter (nothing more than #7 D-man) and Sauer but not Sangs. No offence but I think you are either seriously overrating Heikk or seriously underrating Sangs. Heikk is a 3rd pairing D-man while Sangs' floor is 3rd pairing.

I saw Heik in one of the games he played against Buffalo and I thought he was a solid 3rd pairing defenseman now. I think he could be a #4/#5 if given a chance. The guy has good size and reads the play well and one thing I was extremely impressed by was his snarl that he plays with.

Fact is he didn't beat out two rookies for a top six spot. He didn't even beat out Semenov. Don't ya love guys who want want want yet they look average out there? He looked okay but not someone who your like WOW I can't believe he's not in the NHL.

7 career NHL games and you want a one way contract? Okay I guess I should get hired at my new job, tell my boss I want a raise after my first week there. Some guys who go play in Europe really belong there.
