Nondisplaced knee fracture

I just started playing hockey in January and I'm not the youngest guy out there at 40. After my 2nd game I had some pain in my right knee. It persisted so to make a long story short the ortho diagnosed it as a nondiplaced fracture of my right knee. Basically it's a crack in the back/outside of my femur where it meets the fibula. He told me to stay off of it until my next appointment in March. I'm really itching to get back so I'm curious if anyone else has had this type of injury. Can I realistically expect to be cleared to play when I go back 3/1 or is this something that is going to take months to heal?

I had a buddy that fractured his knee just by skating on it, right after he started. His doctor said if he was to keep skating on it, you could do a lot of damage. It's best to just keep off and let it heal.

For what it's worth, four years later he's never had another problem with the knee.

Ugh, I read that and I want to kill myself. My neck is killing me (pinched nerve), and my left shoulder is shot, so when I see all of the over-40 players having these problems, I wonder if I should have taken up Wii ping-pong...

I'm another over 40 guy here.

I tore my bicep tendon last June and missed only 6 weeks with that thankfully and opted for NO surgery.

I fear knee injury the most and arm problems second like you are having with the shoulder.

I have never injured my knees playing, I do have a weakened right knee which is an issue when skating but that happened when I was 10 or 11 years old, I got a staph infection from a playground scrape and almost had to have my leg amputated. It started to heal in time to the antibiotic resistant staph bacteria thankfully. i have a small hole in the side of my knee covered in skin obviously but damaged cartilege nonetheless.

My knees are crunchy and I cannot run for long distances anymore.

they do not bother me playing hockey and I have no pain although after an excessivley long ice session like playing for over 2 hours the next day I feel pain just under my knee where that thick tendon thing on the front is. Whatever that is called.

I wonder if I am feeling stress on the bone itself after reading this thread. I'll have to keep an eye on it I guess.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention actually guys.
