Site's running low on hits due to the Olympic break. What took so long?

He basically lists every team, with the trade deadline coming up...

He's really going out on a limb with this one...

Definitely checking around, but my source in Montreal called it a definitive "game changer that will make much of what has happened in Montreal to this point more understandable."

lol

I heard through the grapevine about an Edmonton/Montreal blockbuster too. The names of "J-F Jacques" and "fifth-round pick" were discussed. My mind was BLOWN.

I buy the Calgary Booth rumour. He's been right about Sutter and Florida making a deal, as well as that it is conceivable in terms of a splash Sutter wanted to make.

I figured out who's going to Montreal, they are deciding to get smaller and have a higher cap hit.

To Montreal:
Turco
Cogliano
Horcoff
Omark

To Dallas:
1st round pick
Benoit Pouliot

To Edm:
Carey Price
PK Subban
and then after this they shock the world with this trade.

To NYR:
Cammaleri
Markov

To Montreal:
Redden
Rosival
Drury

E4!!! You heard it here first!!!!

I don't buy Booth moving at all. Eklund just throwing teams and names out of a hat.

I read on twitter that the market for Turco has dried up. So who knows?

If two team trades are too difficult to work out in the post cap era, wouldn't a third team and it's attendant legalities add another order of magnitude? This is being done by three first year GMs?

Eklund rates how dependable or accurate his info his using a 'E' system. E1 being the lowest and E5 being the highest

Maybe Ek's new buddy (according to his last post -- isn't this rich), Darryl Sittler, can help build a new pyramid scheme for him to get rich quick.

Darryl Sittler driving him home from that Spectrum.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

I guess if you tell yourself a lie long enough, you actually start to believe it's true.

It reminds me of the time when the arch angel himself Gordie Howe appeared behind my bench in the middle of a game and told me "Hey kid, you're holding your stick upside down." I made the adjustment and then went on to score 5 goals, including the game winner. (Now that I think about it, it may have been Darryl Sittler)

I swear, that guy wearing the janitorial uniform and lugging that mop buckett was Mr. Hockey. I know it was.

likely no substance to this one, as usual... but here's my shot at it:

To Dallas: (gives Turco, Niskanen, Brunnstrom)
Cogliano
Souray
D'agostini

Why?- Dallas gets a young cheap 2-way forward needing a change of scenery, a rugged PP specialist dman(adding much needed size/grit to their defense) and a borderline top 6 prospect, while getting rid of Turco's remaining contract, and dumping the disappointing Brunnstrom.

To Edm: (gives cogliano, brule, souray, 3rd)
Halak
Spacek
Brunnstrom

Why?- Edm gains their goalie of the future(and present) who is still relatively cheap, swap dmen getting a cheaper similarly productive player who enjoyed success there, and a project top 6 winger with good size/speed.

To Mtl: (gives Halak, Spacek, D'agostini)
Brule
edm 3rd 2010
Niskanen
Turco

Why?- Mtl gets cheaper and younger (for 2010-11), gains another 2005 reclamation project who fills a 3rd line centre (with secondary scoring potential) need cheaply, a young/cheap Rdman whose best season came playing next to a player quite similar to Markov... could be a great fit... a #1 goalie that, though a salary dump they would not re-sign, can split time with Price down the stretch and hopefully set a good professional example (and motivated by playing for a new contract even if not in montreal), and a very high 3rd round pick... while unloading a contract they don't really need in Spacek.

i think the value for all three teams is pretty solid. Edmonton might be giving up a bit more, but Souray's contract off the books helps them re-tool this offseason, and they get arguably the best player in the entire deal.

That leaves Edmonton with four goalies.

Could we please have Price instead of Halak? Pretty please? We'll throw in Omark too if you want?

for this year it would be 3, since Khabibulin isn't coming back... which is what they started the year with, so dubnyk would likely be heading back to the AHL.

in the offseason they'd have to make a decision, assuming Khabibulin comes back healthy from the back problems, but given his age and the recent DD issues, I'm thinking that Edm might be looking for a way to cut him loose... not sure how they'd do it since he's got a pretty brutal contract, but if they at least have a #1 playing for them and getting wins, it's not as big of a deal...

I'd actually be comfortable with the Habs trading one or the other... I'm leaning towards it being whomever has the most value at the deadline, so if Gauthier got the feel that Price had more value and could squeeze something more out of the deal, I'd be for it.

not sure that Omark would be that "something more", we don't need any more smurfs (especially if we'd be getting brule)...
Nash or Petry would do the trick, or maybe one of Peckham/Plante + switch the 3rd for a 2nd

I'm not saying this to substantiate anything Eklund is doing - in fact with Kari Lehtonen, I'd be surprised if Dallas and Montreal tango - but DallasDave hasn't tweeted anything about Marty Turco in 10 days.

In that time period, Turco has let in one goal against two higher seeded teams and Joe Nieuwendyk has gone on record as saying he now believes there will be demand for Turco. It's quite possible Nieuwendyk's bluffing, but I get the sense there may be some renewed interest.

If you actually click the link he provides on his latest Tweet, his post was from yesterday and clearly says the market has dried up. Now whether this changes or not come deadline day remains to be seen.
