Marian Gaborik to Sweden

Marian Gaborik has signed with the swedish team Färjestad, the contract is until January 31 and he is expected to return to Slovakia for the playoffs.

I'd read some rumors that he might end up in Russia, but I guess it's Sweden. It sounded like the NHLers weren't entirely received well in Slovakia.

I'd like the next article to be about Gaborik returning to St. Paul.

A-men to that Ceber! But I don't think it's going to happen this year. It will get done next year though. The players will need to pay there bills at some point.

I guess it's nice that Gabby can keep playing during the lockout, but I gotta tell you if I were a mid-level hockey player I'd be more than a little upset with these NHL players stealing jobs. I mean it might be nice for the Euro fans to have some NHL talent, but there are probably at least 230 players abroad right now.

I can understand playing for your hometown team, like Gabby playing Trencin or Forsberg playing for Modo, during the lockout, but I just don't know if I really approve of this kind of stuff. I mean these NHL guys making at least a mil each year can buy a bunch of icetime and skate on their own if they need to keep in shape.

I read that ex-New York Rangers netminder Corey Hirsch is upset and ripped NHLPA gusy who have pushed him and more than 100 others out of European jobs. He was quoted saying something to effect that NHL players are bumping off players who need the money, for no other reason than to stay in shape.

Thoughts?

If I got bumped I'd be mad, too.

I'd also be a little upset as a fan of one of those teams if the NHLer came over and didn't play as hard as the "regular" guys. I'd want him to take it seriously.

As a coach, I'd probably be peeved if the guy just up and left after a few months because he found a better deal elsewhere or wanted a change of scenery.

As an NHLPAer who didn't take a job over there, I might be a little miffed on the basis of solidarity and such, but this is a lockout after all and not a strike.

As an NHL fan over here in MN, I don't really mind what those guys do. If they go over I hope they play well, don't get injured, and give the European fans some thrills.

that's kinda funny, because as long as hirsch is playing bad and his 5 hole is that open, he won't find a starting job anywhere. he's the backup behind joaquin gage who's no lockout player.
but in general it's correct that the NHLers steal the jobs from other players and that's not really a good thing.

What's the point of signing a player for only one month ?

Well... He scored 12 seconds into his first game, so I think some fans might have settled for even less!

Consistency...

Well, I hope he's gotten some things figured out in his time away from the Wild. I want to see him and the rest of the guys back here on the Wild, where they belong.

NHL needs to start up again, I'm sick of arguing about players and owners and Bettman and Goodenow. It's time for hockey.

Well, there is still hope.

Gaborik got 25 minutes of penalties in his last game, looks like for dropping the gloves with Petri Liimatainen!!

If that's the reason for it, it's definitely surprising.

An ugly game it seems, 128 minutes handed out...

Dropping the gloves and fight means an automatic game penalty (5+20) in SEL.
Stupid rule.

My ancestors are from Norway... My Great great grandparents imigrated from Norway to the States many many years ago. I only know a few words in Norweigan. My dad and grandparents can speak it pretty good still.

He plays in Sweden with Färjestad. He'll soon return to Slovakia though, in about a week.
