Ovechkin wants Halak?

Seems to be more a rumour than news.

Translation:

According to ESPN, the Washington Capitals called Pierre Gauthier to inquire about the availability of goaltender Jaroslav Halak.

Dealing with goalie problems all season long (Theodore and Varlamov don't get the job done), Capitals General Manager George McPhee was really impressed with Slovakia's performance at the Olympics.

According to a Hockey30 source employed by the Capitals, Ovechkin had contacted his GM after the Russians defeat at the hands of the Slovaks to express his admiration in Halak's performance.

Wins = team stat.

Goaltender win record != goaltender ability.

That said, his real goaltender stats are very good.

Varlamov is getting the job done this year. He's just been injured. That site is nonsense.

If this was fantasy hockey, I Would trade Halak for Varlamov Straight Up

Won't happen but that kid is just the next best Goalie in the NHL waiting to happen

Yes I'm sure Ovechkin cares... this is just silly

If he did I'm sure he would ask his GM to get a defense instead.

Change your thread title it's HUGELY misleading. It should in no way read Ovechkin wants Halak?

Now the rumor about the Washington Capitals being interested in Halak, I can buy into. He would probably get them to the cup finals. Varlamov may very well be the "next" golatender in this league but Halak is young too and playing better in front of a worse team.

Washington is peaking hard with this current lineup (imo they won't be as good in the following years considering all the other eastern teams are bad this year) and it's understandable that they don't want to risk everything on the line with a 21y-o rookie goalie.

Mmmm, maybe Théo could come the other way? He'd sure be a good mentor to Carey Price and he could give him tips on how to avoid bad relatonship in Montreal... I'm all for it! (as long as we are also getting Ovechkin in the deal)

Ah Theo... he would probably be a bad influence on Carey Price atm.

Not only is he a terrible goaltender, but will probably tell Carey to loosen up, and go club hopping with him. Don't remember the 3 amigos? (not talking about the restaurant)

Possible trade

WHo would take the chance to trade Halak to Washington? How about Halak for Semin? Or Halak and Plekanec for Backstorm?

Varlamov has a record of 12-2-2, a 2.44 GAA, a .916 sv% and 2 shutouts in his last 5 starts. I'd say Washington is just fine with that. Hell, Varlamov is even younger than Carey Price.
