Why is Brent Burns having an off year offensively?

This guy has been one of the big mysteries in the nhl this season imo. He's tied for 4th on the team in points with Shane Hnidy. This season he's on pace for 3 goals and 20 points. A big time step back from his career high. What is it that has caused him to regress like this in his offensive production? Does it have to do with the mishandling of the concussion last season, is it a matter of confidence? Or is it something else that has hurt this guys production?

You do know that he missed half the year with a concussion?

Besides the concussion, he is still trying to find his way in the new Wild system. Most of the team looked awful for the first month or so, but once they got it, they played better. Burns was among the worst that first month, taking way too many chances, then he got hurt, and now he's lost his top 4 spot as he works his way back into it. I'd like to see him paired with Schultz or Zanon now that Kimmeh is gone, as him and Hnidy haven't been all that great together. He still has the wheels and the enthusiasm, so I hope he'll have a big 2nd half.

He had a head injury that was undisclosed. Give him some time to find his place and he'll get the point totals back up......least i hope

He just looks to out of control out there. He was on a tight leash with LeMaire but got loose. Now he is just running around. On the PP. There are numerous times he will take the puck and skate around behind the net only to cough it up on the extra corner. When he should have just skated it up to the blue line and shot or passed it off and got a one timer back.

He has not found the balance of having all the freedom he wants but not knowing when to use it. The team in general is not on the smae page as Burns either. no chemistry out there.

He looked unstoppable in practice today. It seems to me that when his confidence is up, he plays much better. Let's hope he does whatever he needs to do to keep his confidence high.

Sens fan, coming in peace...

One of our local bloggers mentioned a rumour involving one of Zidlicky or Burns coming to Ottawa. Just curious what it would take for Ottawa to get Burns?

Rumors out of Minnesota is that the Wild are working on a deal with Zidlicky and that he'll likely be re-signed soon. So we'll see what comes of that.

As for Burns, I think it would take a good young forward. As for what Ottawa has in the department to offer, well, it's not much that they can afford to be without. I really don't see it to be honest.

If the Wild were thinking about moving Burns, they'd be better off doing it in the offseason so he has the chance to work his value back up.

As mentioned the Wild are trying to resign Zidlicky at the moment. However, if it gets really close to the deadline and he's not signed he'll most likely get shipped out.

I don't see us moving Burns right now to be honest. He has a ton of potential and with his recent injury problems we wouldn't be able to get proper value for him.

True. A couple years ago he was considered Olympic hopeful. He needs to get his confidence back, including confidence that he will not get hurt again if he crashes and bangs, which is when he's at his best.
