Note I left out 2003 and 2004 because it is still pretty early for those drafts to tell.

well let's see...here is a list of year by year draft choices that are still in the pred system;

1998-legwand,arkhipov,(skrastins)
1999-finley,hall,hutchinson,erat,haydar(not counting lassak and andersson)
2000-hartnell,pivko
2001-hamhuis,shishkanov,setzinger,tootoo
2002-upshall,segal,mckenna
2003-suter,glazachev,klein,weber,stehlik,brown,sulzer,s hafigulin,lassila,sidkov,mukhachev,hanuljak,darzin s
2004-radulov,meidl,fugere,moir,niskala,santorelli,balan ,rinne,switzer

so so far you have to say 99 is the overall best i guess(2 regulars),but honestly we got two regulars from each of 98-99-01 drafts...but so far only harts from 00

now i fully expect to get one more regular from 01(shishkanov),and someday possibly(?) finley from 99,and possibly a year or two of pivko from 00

however from 03 i expect to someday get as many as 5 future preds, and from 04 maybe 2 more.....so ithink 2003 will prove to be our best looking back 5 years from now...but not many teams can say that 6 of the guys they drafted in the last 7 years are already contributing regulars on their team already

I went with 99 as well as Erat and Hall are already solid contributers. We also have Finley and Hutch doing pretty well developmental wise. Haydar is the wild card in that draft. He has played well on every level he has played at, and he seems to be starting to heat it up again for a good final run this season as well. Question is will he ever get a shot as Haydar plays in a position we have pretty decent Depth in.

'01, since '03 isn't a choice at this time, only because it has given us our first real defenseman to this point, with possibly 2 more definite and 1 more possible future Pred from that draft

from this list...01, but I'd probably take '03 over that, even now.

very close between 1999 and 2001, but give the nod to 01 just barely...

That's what it came down to for me as well...BUT...I looked it this way to decide:

"of the two, which draft gave us the best overall player?"

And to me..that's pretty clearly Hamhuis.

really...when you look at it...the 1998 draft with leggy, arkhipov, skrastins could well be argued to be our best draft still 'so far'...more NHL games played, more goals scored, more assists, more points scored, more icetime from these 3 combined than 2001 or 1999 groups...3 legitimate NHL'ers, the only draft where we can say that so far(ok ok it's questionable still on Arkhipov lol)...just kinda surprising it hasn't recieved a single vote or mention..and how could anyone vote 2002 over any of those years?

How could any draft with David Legwand not be our best draft?
