Rangers claim Auld on reentry waivers

This is a no brainer pickup for me. Rangers need an experienced backup and Auld is now available for nothing

Makes sense, if he falls to the Rangers. I think he's cheap and FA at the end of the season, too.

Not bad as a backup but don't expect great things.

Would definitely prefer him over regularly calling up/sending down Johnson.
What about the contract limit?

no thanks.

Henrik is going to play the rest of the season, we all know it.

might as well save that limited cap space and the roster spot.

Totally agree and if the worst case scenario happens (Hank goes down with an injury) it could be great experience for Johnson - no one would expect the Rangers to even have a chance of making the postseason if Henrik went down so very little pressure on Johnson.

Auld is 29 and a decent backup. Problem is, you'll never see Johnson again if Auld turns out to be the long term solution to the Rangers backup goalie plans. I'd rather see Johnson in the role. He's been fine.

i guess no one here has followed his past 3 games with the Wolf Pack in the AHL... Johnson made Cloutier and LaBarbera look like Roy in his prime, plus, he's let in some goals that if you'd put them on YouTube as bloobers, there's no doubt it would have 100,000 hits very soon...

Get Auld to the end of the season. Period. Henrik needs to know that there is someone capable on the bench in case...

Why is that a problem? If Auld fills the role, it means hes a better option than Johnson.

A bigger problem is falling too much in love with prospects.

With that said, no thanks.

actually i would argue just the opposite...Henrik knowing that he's the last and only option we have probably will motivate him even more.

In Torts defense, he had no idea Valiquette was gonna crap the bed. That kinda threw a wrench in the original plans and its been a mess behind Lundqvist ever since.

He's UFA at seasons end. No harm in picking him up.

Last I checked he made 1mil. Could be wrong. That might have been a previous contract.

He would be a very good backup.

He has good career numbers.

Still in his late 20's.

Don't see any downside at all.

I'd pick him up. He's a much better option as a #2 than anyone we have at our disposal.

I have a hard time seeing Lundqvist playing every single game the rest of the way, and if this team is trying to make the playoffs, they're going to have to win as many as possible. Auld is a very solid backup when he's on his game.

Nah that's what he's on now. UFA at the end of the season though.

I see some say it means Johnson will not be back. All this does is gives a veteran for the rest of the year. Auld makes only like 200 K more than Johnson so its a no brainer. I hope he's a Ranger by noon tommorow and I think he will be cause not sure who else needs a backup.

Pros; Free backup

Good career numbers, a guy who would me much more prepared to step in in case of injury than say, Johnson or Valiquette.

Impending UFA

Cons;

Studs Johnson's development (Not much though)

Having a down season

I wouldnt be opposed to it.

100% agree with this. Let chad work on his game with the pack rather than sit on the bench. Auld would be a solid pick up imo.
