Ott and Avery on the same team seems rather pointless to me.

As for the "Stick him in front of the net on the PP and he'll probably score 20!" argument, you could say that about anyone. There's a reason guys like Ott and Avery aren't PP staples on competitive teams; They're mediocre offensive talents.

Ott is only going to be "cheap" for the next 3 months and definitely isn't the 'missing piece' to turn us into a playoff contender. He's going to demand more money than he's worth on July 1st.

Not to stray too far off topic, but this is so true. Brooks Orpik was a beast the other night against Canada, and it really does set a tone for the game. I know when I played a big, mobile, mean defenseman on the other side always caught my attention and even though I'd hate to admit it, effected my play as well.

Its time to stop investing in ridiculous amounts of 3rd/4th liners in search of toughness. We need to get some on the blueline first a foremost.

Ott and Avery on the same team would add a new dimension, but may just end up being redundant.

Well, he hasn't been able to stay healthy, which is the main reason he can't hit 20. Before this season, when he was getting good TOI and real PP time, he averaged 22 goals per 82 games (with us). Including this season, 17.5 per 82. So, if he could stay healthy (which he can't...), the potential is there for him to get 20 goals. That said, he's not a 20 goal scorer right now, and anyone saying that he is is just enjoying some wishful thinking.

He's a guy that should reasonably hit 15 goals, 20-25 assists if given decent TOI.

When did the NHL change the rules so that the team with the most "grit", "toughness" and "character" wins the game? Last I checked, the team with the most goals gets the "W". Right now there's one guy on the team who's proven he can consistently put the puck in the net. Yet people want trade for more "grit", "toughness" and "character"...

Bringing in Ott makes as much sense as trading for Vokoun.

If the Rangers want another gritty forward they should go for Colby Armstrong, that is the type of player that teams win with.

Unless the Rangers can move Voros and Lisin and aren't looking to bring Prospal or Jokinen back than I see no point in adding another forward, especially a bottom-6 player.

After the Rangers sign Ott, they can add one or two more idiots and field an AHL-level team. I know some here wouldn't mind. That's their version of hockey like it oughta be.

How anyone could think there is any point whatsoever to a move for Ott is beyond me. Completely pointless, redundant idea. Would be a total waste of money.

I rather have a "big body", who can play somewhat.

You can't clutch and grab anymore. And more imporant, smaller and smaller D's are entering the league. Like a winger who is 6'5 is very hard to handle for a D thats 5'10, and many teams have a D like that these days.

If you want to spend 3 mil on Ott why not just trade for Dustin Byfuglien instead?

You would get a young developing PF who has alot of potential.

To me Ott goes beyond Avery's agitating style. Ott does try to hurt players quite often. The Rangers wouldn't score a lot more but they'd be one of the nastier teams in the league to play against. The question is whether it's worth it? and whether you want that kind of player on your team?--and in a sense with both Avery and Ott it turns into kind of a sideshow--though both are decent enough hockey players. The Rangers main problem is shoring up a defense and getting secondary scoring. Would the Rangers be a better team with Ott?--maybe depending on what he costs but his addition doesn't dramatically improve anything beyond making us an a$$hole team to play against.

Dusty would be a great addition to this team, unfortunately he would cost some assets, whereas Ott may not. What would you think the asking price would be for someone like Dusty or Versteeg? Both of those players are good young players.

With our current roster, I'd take Ott over Boyle on the 4th line but given that he will get paid more than a 4th liner I'd have to say "don't we have enough 3rd liners anyways?" PASS

Giving Ott 3 million would be insane. The rangers have enough toughness and grit among there forwards. They need to add toughness to there blueline not to there forwards. They need a forward that can create and score.

Goals dont win games. Passion and heart and grit and toughness do.

Talent and skill is a much bigger part of the equation than grit and toughness, at least in the current version of the league.

Yep. You can win without grit and toughness, you can't win without goal scoring.
