No doubt Boyes is a good player.. but where do you fit him in the wings? Gionta and Cammalleri are here to stay, then we have Pouliot and A. Kostitsyn, two young guys that doesnt cost too much.

You cant put a 4M$ Brad Boyes on the third line with Lapierre, waste of talent and money. Thats why i rather have Sergei at 700K that he is quite useful for us. Could easily play on the top 3 line, can play on the PP( Martin), PK and again, very cheap for what he brings to the team.

Does that really surprise you in this place?

You know better that its not just Boyes for Sergei. Of course that would definitely help our scoring problems and all but if we get Brad Boyes, you have to send either Pouliot or A. Kostitsyn on the 3rd line which is a waste of talent.

Then comes the cap space, bringing Boyes pretty much means Plekanec will be byebye.

A fair proposal would be A. Kostitsyn+ S. Kostitsyn for Brad Boyes.

I personally wouldnt do it.

Plekanec is not the grittiest player either but he still manage to produce at a good rate.

I do agree that we definetaly need bigger body though to go far in the playoff though but I dont think we should get rid of Sergei so soon. That guy is full of potential and lets see what he can do with his brother first.
just watch his one on one battles or his poor hustle, this kid is not strong on the puck either.. Im saying it for a while, ne needs to get stronger, way too inconsistent regarding effort level and fundamentals part of the game.. Needs to add meet at his frame..

Sergei, D'Ago and Maxwell seems fair to me. AKost and SKost is too much. But again, give me a lot of different players over Boyes

I've always liked Boyes, but hopefully if we get him we send some salary the other way. I have a Sergei jersey and I still feel that Sergei for Boyes would be a huge steal by us.

The only players i want to see in the CH from St. Louis are Johnson, Oshie or Perron. Maybe mason if one of the two goalies is moved. Otherwise pass.

Yeah, Boyes is good, but not good enough to warrant a trade for him. If we were going for something like that, it would be Backes (no way in hell that would happen), or any one of the young Canadian D (again, naganahappen). Boyes is fast and can definitely score, but it all depends on what we would have to give up. I also really wonder if Sergei and Andrei sticking together does affect their play (on the same team, not same line necessarily). I don't want to lose Andrei and we saw what Sergei is capable of (although I think he was pretty useless against the Swiss).

I was just re-reading the OP.

They could target the Panthers' Nathan Horton or the Blues' Brad Boyes -- both players who are rumored to be on the block -- but there are several options the Habs might take.
Where does it say that Gauthier wants Boyes? All it says is that he could target him. It's just pure speculation by the guy who wrote the article.

Trading for Boyes makes no sense salary cap wise both now and the future, which is why I can guarentee that this trade doesn't happen.

Also, given that this "hockey analyst" didn't know that Halak was an RFA makes this rumor that much crappier.

Is Boyes really the player we want? I mean, what does he bring that can't potentially be achieved with the players we already have? Just saying, if you say that guys like Cammy, AK, slump often, well, maybe in the CH Boyes would slump. You're trading a very young playmaker for a goal scorer, which the team has, effectively taking away from a dimension the team already is weak on. Sure trade Sergei for a better player, but I don't think Boyes is the right player to give up on Sergei for.

You wouldn't want David Backes???? Have you watched the St Louis Blues play in recent years?

Somebody could try but I doubt it.
I'm pretty sure it's different for 09-10:

$1,506,718 -to- $3,013,433
2nd Round Pick

$3,013,434 -to- $4,520,150
1st, 3rd

$4,520,151 -to- $6,026,867
1st, 2nd, 3rd

Basically, if someone offers 3M, all we get is a 2nd round.

What if a salary like Hamrliks is going back people freaking out over how this "rumour" will affect re-signing Pleks?

This means nothing at this point, chill out.

dude don't you know everything in montreal is an overreaction. I can guarentee to you that every thread on this board has one guy complaining and overreacting and predicting the end, even in the most positive thread you can find.

You can have a thread about sandwhiches but people will still complain about the salary cap.

Hopefully it's true that he's working on deals. Hopefully it's not for small forwards.
