As far as I'm concerned, the years of non-playoff teams are a karmic come-up-ance for his mouth when he was in Buffalo. Few guys in the NHL have put a smile on my face by failing... Kozlov is one of those few.

Not that I think either has a good chance of happening, but I'd see Atlanta pursuing Byfuglien more than Versteeg, especially if they are losing Armstrong to UFA.

Kozlov is horrible now. Don't get me wrong... Kozzy is one of my favorite Thrashers, but the guy is a healthy scratch on a team that just traded Ilya Kovalchuk.

I'm not surprised he asked for a trade considering how often he's getting scratched. Hopefully he can do well wherever he ends up.

The best thing left about Kozlov is his role as Power Play set up man (and his NHL best Shootout % post-lockout). He is smart and can make the pass and distribute the puck. He will not hurt your team defensively at ES but his offense at ES has really dried up.

He's been a very expensive healthy scratch the last bunch of games. He just doesn't want to end the career that way.

I loved this guy as recently as last year, but he's all used up I would guess. Shame that Atlanta couldn't get something for him when he was worth something, but that's the NTC for ya.

What? Knows the system? He hasn't been in Detroit for nearly a decade.

Failure?

534 Game Played in ATL
145 Goals
269 Assists
414 Points
Averaged 63 points per 82 games in ATL.

all that for the low price of a 3rd rounder a swap of 2nd rounders.

If the Thrashers could trade for that sort of "failure" every off season I'd be thrilled!

We would be well protected if hit by injuries in final month + or playoffs though.

I dont believe we will get Vokoun. But I still feel we can move Versteeg now to improve team this year for playoff push and get future asset.

Sharp is going nowhere

How about this

Kozlov + Thrashers 1st for Versteeg

Hawks get a playoff vet + good 1st

Thrashers get a proven young talent while giving up a pick that is ?. With the Devils 1st rounder they can afford to move there 1st as they would get a young top 6 talent in this trade + have a 1st to draft with this year (Devil's 1st)

This is sorta similiar to the Barker deal. Trade young talent buried by our depth for expiring contract vet + 1st (Leddy is comparable to the Thrashers pick)

Sharp-Toews-Kane
Kozlov-Bolland-Hossa
Ladd-Madden-Brouwer
Eager-Burish-Byfuglien
(Kopecky/Fraser as extra's)

Hawks dont lose any of our depth and Kozlov probably has 1 final push in him for cup playing with Hossa again. If not then we move Ladd to 2nd line (He has played there alot recently) and have Byfuglien on 3rd line and Kozlov a scratch. Doesn't kill our depth

For Thrashers they get a versatile forward that helps them with playoff push this year and beyond
I love it. Take Hainsey too.

He sucks and is a waste of contract space, but please, just take him.

Agree completely. Atlanta kisses his butt because he's been a seemingly classy long-term player on the team off the ice: but the fact is that he is a coach-killing punk who has been a terrible influence on the Thrashers on the ice. He's had some nice statistics offensively, but he's a terrible all around player. Kinda like that other Russian we just traded...what's his name?

What about Kozlov, Machacek and NJ's 1st to Chicago for Versteeg?

Maybe Detroit will pick him up so they'll have a better chance at actually winning a shootout this season.

As for his attitude in Buffalo, he was unexpectedly traded from a serious Cup contender with the Wings to Buffalo, who wasn't exactly a powerhouse at the time. And I'm pretty sure that's the season he blew out his achilles tendon, isn't it?

Whoever said Chicago is crazy. No way. Too many forwards as it is. No need for a scrub like Kozlov.

Interesting, it wasn't that long ago (summer 2007) that Kozlov turned down what was reported as bigger money from Dallas as a UFA because his family really liked Atlanta and he thought that team was going to turn it around.

Is he asking for a trade or willing to waive his NTC to be dealt to a contender?

It's kind of boneheaded to ask for a trade, then say, but it's got to be to a contender.

On the blog in the local Atlanta paper, he made a comment about it needing to be a good fit for him and his family. But yes he went to the team and asked them to trade him, but it sounds like he wants to go to a team that he wants to.

I don't see why anybody would want him. He's been absolutely terrible. Without a doubt, Atlanta's worst player.

Todd White wants his title back.

Kozlov scores in the shootout and can help on PP. Not nearly as useless as White IMO.

Atlanta wants Patrick Sharp. Period. They want Sharp, Sharp, and more Sharp to anchor the second line with Peverley (and possibly but not likely Afinogenov going forward)

Kozlov and Atlanta's first (from NJ in the Kovy trade) for Sharp?
I just thought this was cute.
