If Sather wants him I am sure he gets him because the teams below the Rangers on the waiver list probably are not going to claim a backup goalie.

Can you list the teams below the Rangers on the waiver list?, by process of elimination we will basically know if he will be claimed. Rangers have to be putting in a claim OR I can just wait till 12 noon tommorow

If it just goes by the amount of points you have teams below would be Atlanta, Florida, Islanders, Canes, Leafs, Jackets, and Oilers.

Pretty sure it goes by points per game. Which would alter that list just a tad, more than likely, as GP would take effect.

Edit: as far as I can tell, this would be who would get their choice before the Rangers (just going off a quick glance):

1. Edmonton
2. Toronto
3. Carolina
4. CBJ
5. Panthers
6. Isles
7. Atlanta
8. TBL
9. Rangers

Why would they do that? They've removed Auld from their cap, they don't need Vally or Brashear. If they're getting rid of Auld, why pick up a lesser skilled, older backup in Valiquette and dead space in Brash?

What makes you think Dallas would go anywhere near that? They're probably just looking to clear some cap room and roster spots themsleves.

If Chad Johnson's Olympic-break struggles in the AHL have given Rangers management second thoughts about going the rest of the way with the rookie as Henrik Lundqvist's backup, general manager Glen Sather could claim veteran understudy Alex Auld off re-entry waivers today.

The 29 year-old Auld, who was put on re-entry yesterday by Dallas, went 9-6-3 with a 3.00 goals against average and an .894 save percentage for the Stars before becoming expendable with the acquisition of Kari Lehtonen.

So in a sense to me it doesn't matter who the backup is at this point. One way or another I expect Johnson will get some more games in Hartford. Zaba's done a bit of back and forth too.
Are you so seriously near sighted that you cant figure out if Lund' plays all 20 games to GET INTO THE PLAYOFFS because playing a backup would guarantee a lose, than what happens when we GET INTO THE PLAYOFFS? Henrik will be gassed and you would have to play a backup. So, in your mind.. you dont care HOW we get to the playoffs or WHAT WE DO in the playoffs, as long as we are IN the playoffs? Is this right?

So you are somehow tied into Rangers Management? Because only a Managerial point would be made like you made yours. I know I DONT WANT MY TEAM TO BE EMBARRASED out there like that. I rather play Henrik about 15-16 games, let him REST some so if we DO make the playoffs, he has some steam to try and win the whole damned thing. And isnt that the point of the playoffs? To try and WIN the Stanley Cup? Not just MAKE it to the playoffs?

Stop with the bandaids of trying to just meek into the playoffs and get swept out. Lets step back, regroup, get some draft picks, get a solid backup for Henrik and THEN start full steam ahead towards the playoffs and make some noise in there.

I would foresee this year us being NON-Canadates to be in it. I want to skid and get the CORRECT mindset and the RIGHT players and THEn come out next year or the year after SWINGING for the fences i.e. Pitts, Chic,LA,Col,Wash,Van

Where does this not make cents.

Even if it's fpr the 8th spot or not this wouldn't be a bad move.

Auld knows his role, can steal some games and he does have experience.

Solid pickup.

Awesome! I wanted Auld as a backup 3 years ago, but he's still solid!

Better for Chad's development to be the #1 in HFD than it is for him to be the #2 in NY. And CERTAINLY better for his development to be off the HFD shuttle...

Smart move.

Johnson has been getting lit up in Hartford lately, so having him play games during the stretch run for the playoffs probably isn't the best idea.

Auld is a solid backup. I remember he played really well against the Rangers when he was on the Bruins and Sens. If Henke needs some rest, I would certainly feel more comfortable with Auld starting a game over CJ or Vally.
