Anybody ever been close to the NHL?

Has anyone on these boards ever been close to making it to the NHL or some league of high-level play?

I'm 17 so I could still have a chance, but I highly doubt it....I'm sure there are quite a few players here that actually have been decently close.

Nope. Club team for my college is as far as I have gotten thus far.

I wonder if the Wings are still scouting beer leagues .

Furthest I ever went was college... but my bro had a decent shot. He's a goalie and played juniors, some college and did a 6 month stint with a KHL team out of croatia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KHL_Medve%C5%A1%C4%8Dak

A guy I coach with at the youth travel organization played a few games for the Whalers in the late 80s... even fought Probert too haha

There has never been a KHL team out of Croatia.

After 2 seasons with the IHL's Cleveland Lumberjacks in the late 90's I got called up for 2 games with the Pens, and one with the Wings.

Such was the life of a minor league TV Camera Operator seeking to one day make the bigs.

I think at 17 you should have scouts looking at you or talking to you if you are going to be drafted.

"KHL" is a prefix used for many Croatian hockey teams, it has nothing at all to do with the KHL.

Don't ever give up your dream ... don;t be one of those fat guys in beer league 30 years from now telling people about how good you were if only you had your crap together you could have gone somewhere with it.

You are not going to get drafted, but that doesnt mean you cant play some level of pro down the road.

I sometimes wonder if good, young talent gets overlooked because they do not have a name or image that stands out. I'm sure this happens, but I'm not going to say there's a Crosby #2 out there who never got noticed. I do often wonder if people were good enough at one point and just didn't get lucky.

That Croatian team has never been in the KHL, KHL is part of the teams name, they play in the Austrian league.

One of the goalies in my league was looking like he was getting drafted by the Leafs in one of the later rounds. He was a walk on to his college team (can't remember which one, but it was DIV 1) Lots of looks from scouts, and then a week before draft he blew out his knee badly...end of career.

I'm sure theres lots of bad luck stories like this...
