The "young players to rebuild" aren't any younger than the players the Panthers give...

I don't see how that trade is supposed to improve Buffalo. Florida seems a bit iffy as well. They get some depth, but that's not really what they need. They need more highly skilled players, not more solid ones.

its a totally lateral trade that accomplishes almost nothing for either team

florida says no too because although roy is a really good player and has had great seasons, we believe horton can surpass him because horton has so much potential that hes finally using, and weiss just completely kills the deal. its definetely not a bad deal though

Sorry to inject some realism:

To BUF: Cory Stillman

To FLA: Clarke MacArthur + Buffalo's 3rd rd pick

Yes? No? Maybe?

This is more likely to happen than the original trade. It seems like a reasonable trade.

Adding or subtracting to make this more realistic would make the original trade unrecognizable, so there's no point.

I don't think the Sabres would include a draft pick - not only are they giving up 12 years in age difference in a MacArthur-for-Stillman swap but they'd be taking on $2.1M of cap space. Those two aspects are enough to consider MacArthur more than a fair return for Stillman. Odds are that after Stillman's contract expires in 2011, he may consider retiring at age 39. He's won two Cups and doesn't have much more to accomplish.

ya so you agree with me that the pick isn't necessary

For starters...

1) Our top-6 is a weakness.

2) Signed beyond this season.

3) Veteran with Cup experience and proven playoff performer.

4) Could allow them to move Stafford+ for an impact player.

5) Type of under-the-radar move Regier would make while the fanbase is hoping for something larger.

6) Most importantly, at least in management's eyes, wouldn't cost a ton to acquire.

Not saying it will happen, but it's feasible. MacArthur strikes me as another Svatos. A player who brings in it flashes, but won't find the consistency while in Buffalo. I'm not necessarily advocating for it, but he could be a cheap top-6 acquisition, at least in terms of what it would take to get him to Buffalo.

And, the Panthers would likely make the trade assuming that Stillman would waive his NMC. Thus, making the proposal one of few realistic proposals on HF boards.

I'd agree with that and actually say that FL would be adding the pick (due to the age difference and salary addition for Buffalo). Maybe Stillman + FL's 4th (they dont have a 3rd in 2010). But its a deal that I think both teams would consider making (at least I'd hope so).

Weiss would be PPG player this season if didn't the nagging injury he's had for the past month or two. He was a PPG before it
